Abstract:
Two regional thrust planes divide the bedrock of the area into three principal units. In the autochthonous basement the main lithologies are porphyry and granite. Three rocks are correlated with sub-Jotnian rocksi in Trysil and Dalarne. Younger metadiabase dykes out through the acidic rocks. In the overlying Remsklepp Nappe the Late Precambrian and Eocambrian Hedmark Group ("sparagmite") is represented by meta-arkose, orthoquartzite and dolomite marble. Sills of porpyritic metadiabase are also present. The Trondheim Nappe is tectonically the highest unit. Earlier investigations indicate a general inversion of the lithostratigraphic succession. Phyllite and metagraywackes of the supposed Upper Ordovician Stugusjø formation overlie meta-arkose| of the assumed Silurian Hummelfjell formation. Thick layers of mafic rocks within the Hummelfjell formation are interpreted as fine-grained, schistose metadiabase. The border between the tw formations is tectonically disturbed. Characteristics of folds and lineations suggest an easterly to east-south-easterly thrusting of the two nappes. Regional metamorphism completely recrystallized the rocks of the Trondheim Nappe to a mineral assemblage corresponding to that of upper greenschist facies. The rocks of the Remsklepp Nappe and the basement were only partly recrystallized and under conditions equivalent to middle greenschist facies.
