Forekomsten ligger på østsida av Reinsfjellet i åpent fjellterreng 620 moh. Enkleste adkomst er fra skogsbilvei som slutter 300 m øst for nordenden av store Reinsjøen. Det er ikke klarlagt når forekomsten ble funnet, men den er omtalt av bergmester H.C. Strøm i 1825. Skjerping i området i 1907 ble utført av lokale personer. Hovedskjerpet er et 4x3.5 m vannfyllt hull som er 2 m dypt. I sørenden er det blottet en 10-20 cm mektig malmsone som består av massiv, grovkornet magnetkis. Malmsonas orientering er 14°/50°. Over denne, i øst, ligger hvit og fint båndet kvartsrik bergart uten rust, mens rustfarget kvartsittisk bergart opptrer i liggen i vest. Den kan ligne kvartskeratofyr i friskt brudd. Ulike malmtyper er prøvetatt fra tippen. Massiv til semi-massiv magnetkis+pyritt malm med spor av kobberkis med hyppig linser av sidesteinen (prøve .01), massiv magnetkis+kobberkis med kvartsitt- og kloritt-linser (.02) og massiv magnetkis-pyritt i kvartsrik grunnmasse (.03).

Skjerpet ligger 65 m sør for hovedforekomsten og består av to mindre groper i den samme sulfidsonen med en gjengrodd tipphaug på 10 m3 i mellom. Området omkring er overdekket. Svak disseminasjon av jernsulfider i kvartsittisk bergart er blottet i nordenden av det minste skjerpet (1x2m) i nord. Det sørligste skjerpet er 6x2 m med en 1 m høy vegg i vest. En 10-20 cm mektig semi-massiv sulfidlinse med orientering 5°/60° er blottet. Grunnmassen er kvartsrik og hvitvitrende kvartsittisk bergart opptrer i liggen.
