The rutile-bearing albitite (kragerøite) at Lindvikkollen was mined for rutile during the period 1901-50 and produced about 3000 tonnes of rutile concentrate (Bugge 1978). The deposit was investigated by the company A/S Sydvaranger in the middle 1970'ies. This investigation included geological mapping and the core-drilling of 5 holes, 838 m in total. 120 m of these cores are stored at NGUs core storage-facilities at Løkken. The reports from A/S Sydvaranger are not available, but according to Bugge (1978) A/S Sydvaranger calculated the deposit to be 3 million tons of kragerøite with 2 % rutile. The Lindvikkollen deposit is probably too small to be of economic interest. Albitites in neighbouring areas do contain rutile mineralisations here and there, but good information of the size of these deposits is not available.

Abstract:
The high-grade quartzites and schists of the pre-Cambrian Kongsberg-Bamble formation in the Storkollen-Blankenberg area, Kragerø, enclose small gabbroic stocks which were centripetally altered to amphibolite during the Sveco-fennide (?) metamorphism. Associated with the gabbros and probably derived from them are dikes and irregular bodies of granulose albitite containing varying amounts of other minerals, notable among which are quartz, microcline, rutile, and tourmaline. Certain areas of the large rutile-albitite body of Lindvikskollen (kragerøite) were found to contain corundum; this is a new locality for corundum in Norway. Euhedral tourmaline crystals in an albitite-amphibolite transition zone were found to be an Mg-rich variety; this is also a new locality. It is concluded that most if not all of the albitites were formed metasomatically from preexisting amphibolite. Late in the orogeny, large, rare-earth bearing pegmatites were intruded in a highly liquid state, and cooled slowly with several stages of mineralization, including a partial replacement of microcline by cleavelandite. Finally, after shearing stresses had locally faulted and brecciated the rocks, iron oxide mineralization took place along a small east-west fissure.

Rutil opptrer i en rekke bergarter. Store forekomster finnes i tallrike avsetninger bl.a. i N.-South Wahs og Quensland. I Norge er rutil særlig knyttet til eklogitt og gneiser. I den senere tid går den vesentlige del av rutilproduksjonen til fremstilling av titan. Norges samlede produksjon var inkl 1958 ca. 4000 tonn. Verdensproduksjonen var i 1985 på 103 200 sh. tonn.

Dokumentet gir en oversikt over historikken i reisningen av oppredningsverket for rutil ved Rekvika, over verkets tekniske utformning og over tonnasjer og gehalter i rutilforekomstene Rekvika, Dypsundholmen, Isnes og Landsverk. Oppredningsverket sto ferdig i 1943, men produserte kun 40 tonn rutilkonsentrat frem til slutten av krigen. Dokumentet vurderer mulighetene for rentabel drift, inklusive mulige inntekter fra oppredning av andre typer produkter i tillegg til rutil.

Abstract:
Titanium deposits in Norway are of three major types: igneous, metasomatic and metamorphic. The igneous deposits are compared of ilmenite, magnetite and apatite in various proportions and occur in geological provinces of different ages. and some have a metamorphic overprint. The other majord Ti ore-types is the rutile-bearing eclogites in western Norway that formed during the Caledonian high-pressure metamorphism of predominantly Proterozoic basic igneous rocks. The third Ti ore-Type is the Proterozoic rutile-bearing, scapolitised and albitised rocks in the Bamble region of South Norway.
