The Røysivangen deposit includes a number of small prospects and an alluvial gold field situated in the valley between northern and southern Holsjøen lakes and shortly south of the summer-farm at Røysivangen. Most of the prospects occur on the eastern side of the valley where 5 small pits have been worked on small pockets of auriferous sulphide ores in a 1-2 m wide quartz vein. The westernmost pit (no. 1) is situated 15 m east of the dirt road between Guldkis and Brustad mines. The largest pit (no. 3) with an elliptical shape is water-filled and measures 5 m by 15 m. It occurs 70 m east of no. 1, whereas the eastern most (no. 5) are situated 200 m east of the road. The steep northerly dipping vein is situated along a roughly E-W- trending (N87E) normal fault in the western part of the vein system which in the east splays into a horsetail of thin veins in conjunction with an intersecting ENE-WSW-trending (N68E) normal fault. The mineralised vein intersects weakly sheared and steeply dipping granitic orthogneisses with NW-SE strike of their gneiss foliation. The dominant host rock is red coarse-grained gneiss granites of the Solør Complex that carries rafts of megacrystic granites and aplite dykes, both cutting older greyish red granitic migmatites of the Romerike Complex. The vein consists in most parts of massiv milky quartz, though quartz with comb structure and variably filled interstices is locally present. The vein is enveloped by a narrow zone of sericite alteration which rarely exceeds 0,2 m. The vein contact is sharp with the exception of areas where the vein bifurcates and the gneisses is intersected by a dense system of thin quartz veins producing areas with a breccia-like appearance containing veined slices of strongly quartz-sericite-altered gneisses. Several episodes of fracturing, vein formation and ore deposition can be recognised in a similar manner to the development of the Brustad deposit (see AK0021). Chalcopyrite, pyrite, hematite and native gold fill fractures and small cavities in brittlely deformed parts of the vein especially along the vein contact. Maximum gold contents are found in the ores from prospect no. 2 reaching 31,3 g/t Au. The mineralised quartz vein continues for more than 400 m towards the southwest on the western side of the valley where the vein contains erratic distributed pockets of mainly chalcopyrite with around 1 g/t Au (Wilhelm Tveter, pers. com., 1990). The vein shows a small offset in the valley where it intersects the Holsjøen-Lesja fault zone, which at Røysivangen contains a more than 5 m wide barren quartz vein. However, IP ground surveys (Dalsegg 1994) give clear anomalies over the western part of the vein between prospect no. 1 and 4 and fore more than 300 m along the Holsjøen-Lesja fault, mainly north of prospect no. 1. This indicate that auriferous sulphide ores may be present at depth in several segments of the vein system between Lesja farm and the summer-houses at Røysivangen. Prospector Wilhelm Tveter discovered in 1986 the presence of small gold nuggets and abundant gold flour in the quaternary deposits of the valley between Lesja and Røysivangen. He made a thorough investigation by excavating and panning the quaternary deposits, but due to environmental considerations the authorities stopped the plan for exploiting the gold. Instead he built a Yukon style cabin for himself and constructed a gold panning dam for tourists which together with a café was active for several summers at Røysivangen. |

IP-målinger Røysivangen, Eidsvoll, Akershus. |

Abstract: | |
