Innen Bjørnefjellformasjonen finnes flere horisonter med kvartsbåndet jernmalm. En sone finnes nær Pesktindkonglomeratet, og er funnet som spredte linser på stort sett under 1 m mektighet. Disse er stort sett uten amfibolitt/hornblendegneis, men i et begrenset område ved det nedtappede Bjørnevatnet følger også hornblendegneis. Kvaliteten på malmen er stort sett svak, 5 - 20 % Fe magn., men lokalt, bl.a. ved Bjørnevatnet, er kvaliteten stedvis bedre. Bjørnevatnet-mineraliseringen ligger i kanten av tippen fra Bjørnevannsforekomsten.
