Minor iron formation is located along the northeast side of the island Tomma. Working comprises a 4-5 m high, short adit leading into a stope that is approximately 8-10 m in diameter. The adit is hard to locate within a steep hillside with dense vegetation, at the bottom of a 10 m high cliff. The iron formation consists of a lower 2-4 m thick massive hematite-magnetite ore. The hematite is very coarse grained and matrix consists of minor quartz, carbonate and amphibole (Samples JSFE15.14-15). Banded calcite marble occurs both below and above the IF. 10-15 m higher in the terrain is found a more than 1.5 m thick layer of massive hematite-magnetite in quartz-amphibole-rich matrix (Sample JSFE15.13). The upper IF is overlain by a 2-3 m thick sequence of hornblende schist with thin (2-5 cm) carbonate layers. An overlying calcite marble is at least 5 m thick. The strike of the sequence is approximately N-S with moderate dip towards west. Locally, the sequence is strongly sheared, and the existence of isoclinal folding cannot be ruled out. According to older reports, the iron formations can be followed northwards for 8-900 m, but no outcrops of IF was found in the vegetated area. |

;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;Bergarkivet; No.BA 4511 A-B;48+12 pages |
Abstract: | |
Vedlagt kartbilag. |

Tomma jernmalmfelter i Nesna |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;Bergarkivet; No.BA 1209;5 pages |
Abstract: | |

Malmundersøkelser Rostafjell, Tomma, Åkvik og Kangsen. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.1252/5;20 pages |
Abstract: | |
TOMMA JERNFOREKOMST., Nesna kommune. |

Tomma jernmalmfelter. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;Bergarkivet; No.BA 1996;2 pages |
Abstract: | |
