| Several potential graphite occurrences in Vesterålen were selected for follow-up work based on helicopter-borne geophysical data. The purpose for this is to confirm the existence of the graphite and next to briefly evaluate the quality and quantity of the graphite-bearing structures. The goal for the project, which is sponsored by Nordland county administration, is to increase the knowledge of each individual graphite occurrence. By doing so, the interest in graphite prospecting in Northern Norway may increase, effective prospecting can be implemented, and land planning can be developed with appropriate regard for areas with potential for economic graphite. |

| Rapporten omhandler NGUs grafittundersøkelser og geologiske kartlegging som har vært utført i tilknyttning til grafittforekomstene ved Jennestad. Undersøkelsene har resultert i en betydelig utvidelse av området for potensi- elle grafittforekomster. I Jennestad - Vikeid området har det blitt utført røsking og prøvetaking av grafittskifer på ca. 20 lokaliteter. De geologiske forhold og grafittens kvalitet rapporteres. Det har blitt boret 7 hull, til- sammen ca. 250 m. Det har blitt funnet flere lokaliteter med grov flakig grafitt med gehalter opptil 40 %. Grafittskiferen er assosiert med pyroksen- gneis, amfibolitt og dolomitt. Opptreden av grafittskifer synes sterkt domi- nert av strukturgeologiske forhold. |
