| Hydros første kalksteinsbrudd som leverte kalkstein til kalksalpeterproduksjon ble etablert på sørspissen av Store Arøya samtidig med Hydros oppstart i 1905. Det var i drift frem til ca 1910, og ble fraktet på lektere til Notodden og Rjukan.
