The Ramstad Ni-Cu deposit consists of minor mine workings over length of around 1 km in N-S direction, approximately 4 km north of Prestfoss. It was operated in the years 1874-1877, and 1200-1300 t of ore with a total amount of 7 t nickel were produced (Paulsen 1942). The average ore grade was 0.5-0.6 % Ni, and the nickel content in massive sulphide ore was 2.6 % Ni. The mineralizations occur mainly as disseminations of sulphides in well foliated metagabbro. The metagabbro most probably comprises several lenses and boudines enclosed within granitic gneiss, that partly comprises augen gneiss. The metagabbro lenses are a few meter thick and some tens of meter long. The gneiss is transacted by the major fracture breccia zone a few meter east of the gabbroic bodies. The main mine workings comprises a 25 m long and 5-10 m wide, N-S orientated open pit in metagabbro along the western side of a minor valley. The northern wall is up to 8 m high, and it comprises metagabbro with dissemination of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite (Sample JS_K1706).The volume of the dump material in the south is approximately 250-300 m3, and granitic augen gneiss occurs south of the dump.

A minor trench is located 150 m SSW of the main pit in a lens of strongly foliated metagabbro within granitic gneiss. The length of the walls is 6x2 m, and the high in the north is up to 2 m. Dissemination of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite occur along the foliation in the metagabbro (Sample JS_K1705).

Two minor E-W orientated trenches occur just north of the main Ramstad pit. Granitic gneiss is exposed west of the trenches and the major breccia is located east of their dumps. The northernmost of these trenches is 1-2 m wide, 10 m long and up to 3 m high. The mineralization is dominated by disseminations, lenses and bands of pyrite and minor chalcopyrite in the metagabbro (Samples JS_K1707/08).

Approximately 350 m north of the main Ramstad pit a minor water-filled shaft with length of the walls, 6x5 m is located within a 10-12 m thick lens of metagabbro in the granitic gneiss. Similar, disseminated pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-pyrite mineralization in metagabbro as in the major pit are found (Sample JS_K1709).

The small Eivind 'mine', is located nearly 700 m SSW of the main Ramstad pit. It consists of a 6x2 m water-filled pit/shaft surrounded by 8-10 m3 of dump material. An 20-40 cm thick sulphide ore with almost massive, fine grained pyrrhotite with aggregates of chalcopyrite in an amphibole rich matrix is exposed (Sample JS_K1704). The metagabbro lens has probable a length of few tens of meter, and medium to coarse grained, granitic augen gneiss (foliation 245°/65°) is exposed just south of the pit. The nickel content in the analysed samples from the Ramstad deposit varies between 0.13-1.10 % Ni with the highest value in the sample from the Eivind mine.
