The mine is situated in the western hillside 50 m due west of the Guldkis-Brustad dirt road and on the western side of the NNE-SSW striking Holsjøen-Lesja fault zone which follows the river west of Lesja farm. The mine comprises two interconnected open pits with widths up to 10 m, total length reaching 37 m and a depth exceeding 7 m. One adit leads into the bottom of the southern pit where several drives and cross-courses have been constructed. The northern pit contains a water-filled shaft at the end of a deep trench through the hillside. The pits were worked along a 0,5-3 m wide vein of milky quartz running parallel to the Holsjøen-Lesja fault zone that is characterised by clay-altered brick-red wall rocks veined by fine-grained chalcedonic quartz. The steeply west-dipping vein bifurcates in the southern part of the mine where NE-SW and N-S striking branches occur. The veins intersect pink medium- to coarse-grained gneiss granites of the Solør complex. The gneisses surrounding the veins contain abundant thin veins and veinlets of quartz, but show with a few exceptions only weak sericite alteration. Though the mine was worked along the main quartz vein no significant mineralisation of sulphides and gold is presently found. The most prominent auriferous mineralisation occurs related to a fault which in the south follows the western contact of the quartz vein before crossing into the gneiss granites towards the NNE. Both the quartz vein and the gneisses along the fault are strongly brecciated and fractured with a grey to nearly black colour caused by variable abundance of black carbon-coated fractures containing minor pyrite, calcite and quartz. These black carbonaceous rocks contain up to 10 % of total carbon and analyses yield up to 7 g/t Au in spoil-heap samples carrying dissiminated pyrite and pyrite-quartz veinlets. Pyrite-rich carbonate-chlorite-sericite alteration is locally developed in the hanging-wall of the steep westerly dipping fault. Samples of the pyrite-sericite alteration contain up to 9 g/t Au. Microscopic examination of this alteration show abundant pyrite with micro-fractures and inclusions containing accessory amounts of native gold (10-20 mm) partly intergrown with chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena and/or hematite. Hematite is often found associated with red stained chalcedonic quartz veins similar to those along the Holsjøen-Lesja fault zone. These veins are observed to cross-cut the b
