The Karenhaugen intrusion is ca. 1 km long and up to 80m thick at the exposed levels. The intrusion is a metapyroxenite, largely consisting of isotropic amphibolites cut by numerous narrow shear zones, leading to a locally strong foliation. Locally the rock contains significant concentrations of chalcocite (with inclusions of bornite): these phases occur in concentrations which can exceed 10%. Chalcopyrite is present as a subsidiary phase and several platinum group minerals occur in trace amounts: these include phases in the solid solution series between stibiopalladinite (Pd5Sb2)/merteite (Pd11Sb4-Pd8Sb3) and arsenopalladinite (Pd8(As,Sb)3)/stillwaterite (Pd8As3), a range of complex arsenides, native palladium, sperrylite (PtAs2) and several new phases. The grades reach 10 ppm Pt+Pd, with palladium exceeding platinum by factors of four to ten. On the basis of data from 7 drillholes, an open-pit mine has been modeled with 700 000 t of ore averaging 0.57 % Cu, 0.87 ppm Pd and 0.31 ppm Pt, which is not regarded as economic, if not additional resources could be added from other nearby deposits.

Abstract:
Undersøkelsene foregikk i 4 mindre områder i Porsangerfeltets nordre del syd for bunnen av Porsangerfjorden. I følge professor O. Nordenskjolds beskrivelse av feltet ligger de viktigste mineraliseringer i grønnstein eller i grensene mellom grønnstein og kvartsitt. Her opptrer kobberforekomstern av ulike typer samt svovelkis. I 1938 utførte Compagnie General De Geophysique, Paris selv- potensialmålinger i feltet, og det ble funnet utstrakte potensialsoner. Ved foreliggende undersøkelse ble det stilt som oppgave ved egnete geofysiske målinger å foreta en mer detaljert kartlegging i noen aktuelle områder og herunder kontrollere de franske ingeniørers målinger. Det ble utført el.magn. målinger (Turam) som i to av de undersøkte områder ble supplert med magnetiske målinger. I samtlige felt ble det påvist utstrakte tildels meget sterkt ledende soner - trolig svovelkissoner eller grafittsoner. Over de kjente kobberforekomstene ble det ikke observert indikasjoner. Resultatene av Turam- målingene korresponderer dels godt, dels mindre godt med selvpotensialmål- ingene.

Abstract:
Hensikten med årets undersøkelse var å foreta IP-målinger over impregnasjons- malmen for å se om den hadde utstrekning ut over det som tidligere var kjent. Innenfor det undersøkte området framkom det to sterke IP-anomalier, men ut- strekningen på begge sider synes å være for liten til at de har økonomisk interesse. Målingene ga heller ikke indikasjoner på at de er utholdende mot dypet. For videre prospektering etter samme type malmer anbefales en kombinasjon av IP-og magnetiske målinger.
