Forekomsten har vært kjent lenge men har hatt en usikker lokalitet. Henrich Noeuman befarte forekomsten i 1952 uten å finne å finne mineralisering i fast fjell. Forekomsten ble igjenfunnet i fastfjell av Håvard Gautneb i 2012. Forekomsten sees som et 5 x3 meter stort røsk like nord for for den midtre av de 3 gårdene på Sommarland. Her opptrer en grovflakig grafittskifer på noen små lave og delvis overdekkte blottninger. Det er spor etter røsking og sprenging flere steder rund den midtre Sommarland gård. Befaring med EM31 gir utslag som indikerer en bredde på det grafittførende belte på 3-4 meter. Sommeren 2012 ble forekomsten prøvetatt og analysene viser gehalter fra 3 til 17% grafitt.
