The Repparfjord copper deposit is located in sandstones on Ulveryggen in the Repparfjord-Komagfjord tectonic window. The Cu-mineralisations were discovered around 1900: In 1903 the Swedish company ‘Nordiska Grufaktiebolaget’ started to explore the area by trenching and digging minor adits. The area was abandoned until the Canadian company Invex Corporation Ltd continued exploration in 1955, before a Norwegian company acquired the rights in 1963. NGU carried out extensive investigations, including geological and geophysical mapping and core drilling, for A/S National Industri in the 1960’s. These investigations identified 10 Mt of ore with an average grade of 0.72 % Cu. Folldal Verk A/S acquired the rights to the deposit in 1970 and mined the deposit from May 1972 to June 1979. 3.1 Mt of ore with an average copper content of 0.663 were mined from four open pits. The copper concentrate of 51 000 t yielded 35.5 % Cu on average. The deposit is current (2008) under evaluation by the Norwegian company Wega Mining/Metallica Mining. The copper mineralisations are located in the lower part of the Ulverygg Formation, which is the lowermost part of the sedimentary Saltvatn Group. The Ulverygg Formation is at least 1000 m thick and consists of feldspathic and quartzitic sandstones and polymict conglomerates. Minor mafic intrusions are found the mining area. The ore zones consist of diffuse lenticular bodies along a strike length of 1.8 km with maximum thickness of 60-80 m in a northwesterly dipping limb of a NE-SW trending fold. The main ore minerals are chalcopyrite and bornite-chalcosite that occur mainly as disseminations and, to a lesser extent, along veinlets and cracks. The genesis of the mineralisations has been intensively discussed, with both syngenetic (during sedimentary or diagenetic processes) and epigenetic processes proposed. A structural control of at least part of the mineralisations is suggested. There is many similarities between the Repperfjord copper deposit and red bed copper deposits. |

Abstract: | |

Abstract: | |

Reconnaissance structural geological mapping and field XRF-analyses of the Ulveryggen copper deposit, Finnmark, Norway. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.2007.064;16 s. pages |
Abstract: | |
Reconnaissance structural geological mapping and field XRF-analyses with a portable XRF-analyzer were carried out at the now closed Ulveryggen copper mine, Repparfjord Window, Finnmark. The goals of the study were to better understand the structural setting of the mineralisations at Ulveryggen and to test a handheld XRF-analyzer on this type of copper deposit. Preliminary conclusions suggest a structural control of at least part of the mineralisations. Suggestions for further studies include a helicopter-borne geophysical survey, meso-scale structural geological mapping and detailed studies of mineralisations and micro-structures. |

The geology of the Komagfjord tectonic window of the Raipas suite, Finnmark, Norway. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;NGU; No.221;1-71 + kar pages |
Abstract: | |
The report is based on four summers (1956-59) of field work in an area of approximately 860 km2. The area is located in western Finnmark, northern Norway, between 70 degrees 10' and 70 degrees 31' N latitude and 12 degrees 40' and 13 degrees 50' E Oslo longitude. The purpose of the investigation was to study the rocks within a hitherto mainly unexamined area of Precambrian rocks surrounded by Caledonian rocks. Portions of the area near the sea had been visited by a few geologists prior to the initiation of this investigation. It was therefor quite certain that the rocks were Precambrian in age and constituted a window in the Caledonides, but the size of the window was unknown nor had most of the window been studied geologically. This report establishes the Precambrian age of the rocks and delineates the boundaries of the window. The Precambrian rocks along the western coast of Finnmark were previously called the Raipas formation and known to outcrop in (at least) two windows. As this report differentiates seven formations which constitute two groups whithin the Komagfjord (the northernmost) tectonic window, it is purposed that the Precambrian rocks of the two windows be known as the Raipas suite. |

Stratigraphy and structure of the northern part of the Repparfjord - Komagfjord window, Finnmark, Northern Norway. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;NGU; No.377;1-45 pages |
Abstract: | |
In the northern district of the Repparfjord-Komagfjord Window, supracrustal and intrusive rocks of Early Proterozoic age are unconformably overlain by a thin sequence of Vendian sediments. Both of these units are overthrust by allochthonous rocks of the lavas, tuffs and sediments of the Raipas Supergroup and intrusions of the Raudfjell Suite, regionally metamorphosed at greenschist facies during the polyphase Svecokarelian Orogeny, c. 1840 Ma. The c. 8 km thick supracrustal sequence is divided into four groups and eleven formations on a lithostratigraphic basis. The lithological characteristics of these units are described and compared with rocks of similiar age elsewhere in N. Norway. The stratigraphy and sedimentology of the thin (<200 m thick), autochtonous, Vendian cover sequence is also described. The caledonian Orogeny resulted in complex deformation of the autochtonous cover as well as considerable reactiviation of the underlying basement. |

Metallogeny of Finnmark, North Norway |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;NGU Bulletin; No.403;183-196 pages |
Abstract: | |
Metalliferous ore deposits and mineralisations in the county of Finnmark occur in rocks ascribed to three specific periods of geological time: 1) Archaean 2) Early Proterozoic 3) Caledonian. The only Archaean ore deposits is located at the largest iron mine in Norway, Sydvaranger; this was deposited in a shelf environment. The Early Proterozoic volcano-sedimentary belts can be divided into three major metallogenetic provinces. In the easternmost Pasvik area no significant deposits are known and only a few minor nickel mineralisations are present. The rocks of the Karasjok Greenstone Belt are thought to have accumulated during a complete "Wilson orogenic cycle" and contain both stratiform and stratabound copper deposits, banded iron formations and nickel mineralisations. A continental rifting model is more likely for the rocks of the Kautokeino Greenstone Belt and for correlative units in the tectonic windows to the northeast. Stratabound copper deposits are dominant, occurring in both metavolcanites and metasediments, but gold, uranium and REE minerali- sations are also found. This province includes the second operating ore mine in Finnmark at present, the Bidjovagge copper-gold mine. The Caledonian province contains lead deposits in both amphibolite-facies and very low grade metasandstones and Fe-Ti occurrences in mafic and ultramafic intrusive bodies in the Seiland magmatic province. |
