Denne forekomsten er hovedforekomsten til A/S Olivin. Forekomsten ligger ved Gusdal gård i Almklovdalen. Olivinen brytes i et åpent dagbrudd flere hundre meter stort, grovknuses og transporteres til Åheim med et transportbånd. Her knuses og klasseres bergarten. Bergarten er en dunitt som er delt inn i 5 varianter basert på sitt innhold av kloritt og opptreden av olivinkrystaller. Hovedproduktet er knust olivin som slaggdanner (85%). Det produsreres også ildfaste steinprodukter av forskjellig type og forskjellige sand produkter til special formål. Bland bedriftens nyeste produkter er sand for tildekking av forurensede masser. Produksjonene har de siste år (2014) ligget på ca. 1.4 mill tonn per år. Reservene er så store at det vil rekke til mange hundre år

Abstract:
I en tilsendt prøve av borkaks, med mye fiber fra Gusdalsbruddet ble det ved bruk av røntgendiffraksjon (XRD) påvist opptreden av amfibolen antofyllitt. Dette er en Ca-fattig, Mg- og Fe-rik rombisk amfibol. For å teste XRD metodens brukbarhet ble det analysert 3 paralleller med økende mengde mineral. Kun et enkelt fiberkorn som var ca. 6mm x 0.2mm stort var imidlertid tilstrekkelig for en entydig bestemmelse av mineralet. Antofyllitt er et asbestiformt mineral som tidligere bl.a. ble produsert i Paakila-området i Finland. Sett i forhold til de store tonnasjer som brytes Almklovdalens olivinbrudd vet man at fibermaterialer opptrer kun lokalt og i små mengder. Det er kjent at den sykdomsfremkallende farlighetsgrad til asbestfiber bl.a. varierer med fiberens mineralogi. Denne type XRD analyse viste seg å være en rask og lite arbeidskrevende analysemetode og det anbefales at fibermineralet bestemmes når fiber påvises.

Gravity investigation and geological interpretation of the ultramafite complex of Åheim, Sunnmøre, western Norway.

Abstract:
A gravity survey combined with geological field work has been made of the ultramafite complex of Åheim. The study shows that the exposed ultramafic bodies are in all probability all part of one body which has a depth of about 1 km. The central gneissic mountain, Helgehorn, is probably "floating" on top of this ultramafic body. The Bouguer anomaly contours suggest an eastward extension of the ultramafic body at depth. The total excess mass of the ultramafite complex is estimated to 1.2-1.5 X 10(10) tons and the volume is approximately 25-30 km3.

Abstract:
Det ble målt 4 profiler på tilsammen ca. 1,5 km over olivinforekomster nær Åheim. Hensikten var å kartlegge områder med oppsprukket olivin og uforvitret olivin samt å få en oppfatning av om seismiske refraksjonsmålinger ville være velegnet til å skille mellom mer og mindre forvitrede partier. Måleresultatene tyder på at lydhastigheten i fjellet varierer innenfor meget vide grenser. Sannsynligvis er hastighetsreduksjonen noenlunde proposjonal med graden av oppsprekking.

Abstract:
A/S Olivin er igang med å bygge en transporttunnel fra bruddet ved Gusdal til Åheim. Grunnforholdene i tunneltraseen ved påhuggsområdet på Gusdal ble undersøkt ved seismiske refraksjonsmålinger. Det ble beregnet løsmasse- mektigheter på opptil ca. 20 m. Påhugget kommer antakelig i olivin med lyd- hastighet på 5850 m/s, mens tunnelen ganske fort kommer inn i fjell med hastighet 4800 m/s. Det er rimelig å anta at dette er gneis, og i såfall kan man regne med alminnelig godt fjell på den målte strekning.

Kyanite is recorded for the first time in Norwegian eclogites and localities are indicated. The alteration of kyanite to a corundum-oligoclase kelyphite or to zoisite, during an amphibolite facies metamorphism of eclogite, is briefly described.
