Description
Forekomsten består av en rekke skiferbrudd, de fleste nedlagt, og definerer et 3 km langt, smalt belte orientert nordvest-sydøst. Feltet har vært drevet av ulike aktører siden 1890. I dag er det kun ett brudd som er i regulær drift, men sporadiske uttak foregår ved flere. Skiferen i forekomsten er vesentlig tyntspaltende, Sel Royal type Ottaskifer. Denne har stort sett plan overflate og fører små granater. Fargen er mørk grå til sort, men også rustbrune varianter forekommer i dagnært fjell. Kløven står steilt i forekomsten. Sprekkesoner og foldesoner opptrer sporadisk, og de beste forekomstene finnes i lommer mellom slike. Det antas at midtre og øvre deler av forekomsten er mest interessant for fremtidig drift, blant annet siden terrenget i nedre del er svært bratt. Forekomsten inneholder betydelige reserver.
Examples
Sel Royal type Ottaskifer er i stor grad tynnkløvd og har en plan overflate. Dette gjør den godt egnet til takskifer. Kombinasjonen av sort og rustbrud (dagnær) overflate benyttes ofte bevisst for å skape "liv" i skiferen. Brunlig patina er vanlig i skiferen etter lang tids utvendig bruk.
Location
Forekomsten strekker seg fra nedre del av Kleivrudlia (650 m.o.h.) opp forbi Kleivrudtjønn (980 m.o.h.). Total lengde er rundt 3 km. Adkomst fra grusveg opp fra Otta.

Forekomster av fyllittskifer innenfor Selgruppens bergarter i Nord-Gudbrands- dalen er undersøkt og beskrevet i rapporten. Skiferkvaliteter er påvist i første rekke i tilgrensning til nye og gamle driftområder i Ottaområdet, ved Flatningen og nord for Vågå.

Bruddet ligger i øvre del av Kleivrudåsen, adkomst fra grusveg. Bruddet drives i dag av Skifer & Naturstein (NCC), og er hovedkilden for Sel Royal type skifer.
