| There are two main excavation pits, both of small size around 3m x 3m x 1m. In the northernmost excavation pit the predominant host rock is a coarse-grained monzonite, however, syenitic portions are also observed. The rock contains 2cm feldspar crystals with interstitial mafic minerals occurring as fine-grained aggregates (around 15-30%), which is crossed (sharp contact) by the mineralisation comprising a fine- to medium grained rock containing feldspar, clinopyroxene, magnetite, ilmenite and apatite. The magnetic susceptibility increases from 50x10-6 SI in the coarse-grained monzonite to 100-150 50x10-6 SI in the transitional portion, to up to 300 in the massive portions. In the southern excavation pit the host rock is dark-coloured and mainly fine-grained with some feldspar laths of up to 1cm within the fine matrix. Within this fine-grained rock there are some 30-40cm pockets of massive magnetite and apatite mineralisation, with magnetic susceptibility up to 700x10-6 SI. The massive ore consists of 50% of subhedral augite 30%, surrounded by 30% of Fe-Ti oxides (titanomagnetite and ilmenite) and 15% of apatite. The contact between mineralization and the host syenite is sharp and over a 3 cm thin area, the mineralization dominated by augite (80%), while Fe-Ti oxide account for only 5% of the rock and apatite 10%. Whole-rock analysis, on a single sample indicate concentrations of 3.6 wt% P2O5, 10 wt% TiO2 and 55 wt% Fe2O3tot in the massive mineralization. |
