| Forekomsten er en av mange jernskjerp i området mellom Buvika og Melhus, alle ligger i tilknytning til blåkvartssoner i grønnsteinene. Anvisningen i det gamle bergarkivet er noe feil. Skjerpet ligger noe lenger mot SV, hvor en kolle (20 m høy, 50 m bred og >100 m lang) består utelukkende av blåkvarts med mer jaspisaktige partier innimellom. Avgrensningen av blåkvartsen tyder på at det dreier seg om ei stor linse som, ihvertfall i nordlig retning (etter strøket), kiler ut. Blåkvartsen inneholder finfordelt magnetitt (jevnt magnetisk) dels anriket i enkelte striper/bånd. I deler av kollen blir blåkvartsen mer rødlig (jaspisaktig) og inneholder da hematitt i bånd og langs spalteplan. Slike spalteplan synes å ligge parallelt med bergartens primære lagning. Det er bratte kanter rundt denne kollen (ikke i nord), men spor av sjerping synes ikke. Endel nedrast blokkmateriale finnes. Som malm synes forekomsten uinteressant, men den store mektigheten av chert er litt spesiell. I nye vegskjæringer mot Lauvåsen-gården opptrer grovkornet, dels forskifret gabbro (metagabbro). Andre blåkvartsforekomster 1 km nordover. |
