The Fådal mine is located north of the valley above the tree line at an altitude of about 930 m.a.s.l. It is easy accessible by road to the farm Klettvangan and is about 700 m north of this farm. History: Very little is known about the mine. According to Egge (1913), the deposit was exploited as a copper mine by Faadals kobberverk from 1722 to 1747 and produced 133 t copper metal. It was also exploited by Folldal Verk. Egge (1913) reports that the company running the Røstvangen mines was thinking about connecting a cable way from the Fådal Mine to the line going from Røstvangen to Røsten railway station. Geology: The mine consists of two major workings, which are about 250 m apart. The southern field consists of two deep trenches, whereas the northern field consists of four vertical shafts. The depths of the workings are uncertain The dumps are quite significant and the total size of the dumps are about 12000 m3, of which the northern field contain about 8000 m3 and the southern about 3800 m3. In addition there are several smaller workings along strike and the total extent of the ore field is about 2 km. The extent of the ore to depth is not known. The ore occurs in two major zones, which are parallel to the regional foliation in the area, which is N-S striking (10-30o) and dipping vertical or steeply towards west. The two zones are about 2.5 m apart and is separated by country rock. There are also several shorter and thin ore lenses along strike. The thickness of the major ore zones are difficult to estimate. It was observed in some of the pits and walls of the trenches to be up to 0.5 m. The trenches in the southern ore field are up to 5 m wide, indicating that the ore zones must have been thicker at places. The ore consists mainly of massive, fine grained pyrrhotite with minor aggregates of chalcopyrite and locally accessory sphalerite. Pyrite was observed in one of the trenches in a zone of 20-30 cm massive ore, with some sphalerite but this type was not found in the dumps. The massive ore typically contains mm- to cm-sized, partly rounded fragments of quartz and some chlorite and sericite rich schist fragments. The massive ore is surrounded by a 0.5 to 2 m wide zone of weakly pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite impregnated biotite-chlorite-sericite schist, occasionally with mm-sized amphibole needles. The sulfides occurred in mm-sized streaks. The schist is quartz rich and contains minor mm-sized euhedral garnet crystals. Larger garnets (up to 2-3 mm) were found in dump samples at the northern ore field. The deposit is hosted in semipelitic to psammitic chlorite-muscovite schists, with varying chlorite/muscovite ratio and content of quartz. Biotite, garnet and amphibole were only observed close to the ore zones, meaning that these minerals belong to the alteration assemblage. The content of chlorite also seems to increase close to the ore zones. The southernmost pit (close to the farm Haugen) was observed to contain coarse grunerite (1-2 cm crystals) and 1-3 mm large garnets associated with the pyrrhotite. This assemblage was not observed elsewhere along the ore zones.

Abstract:
Forekomstene som ligger ca 10 km NV for Tynset forekommer som et 1 km. langt rustdrag i glimmer og fyllittskifer. Malmsonen er avdekket med to synker og mineraliseringen er magnetkis med noe kobber og svovelkis og med spor av sinkblende.

Det sørlige gruvefeltet består av flere avlange skjæringer langs strøket. Den sørligste skjæringen er ca. 20 m lang og 3-7 m bred, vannfylt og er tydeligvis drevet langs malmsonene. Tipphaugene utenfor gjerdet anslås til ca. 2300 m3. To rustsoner sees i nordveggen av skjæringen, men er ikke tigjengelige for nærmere undersøkelser uten båt. Den vestligste av disse er ca. 20 cm mektig og kan sees å inneholde grovkornet pyritt, mens den andre er vanskelig å anslå tykkelsen på pga. forvitring. En malmsone sees også i vestveggen i sør av skjæringen som en ca. 0.5 m mektig rustsone. Sidebergarten her er kvartsrik biotitt-sericittskifer med spredte mm-store mørkerøde granater. Ca. 40 m lenger nord er det flere avlange, dype skjæringer/sjakter. Den sørligste av disse har en dybde på ca. 20 meter og står antakelig i forbindelse med skjæringen nevnt ovenfor. Dybden på de andre er vanskelig å anslå. Bredden på skjæringene varierer mellom 2 og 5 meter. Størrelsen på tipp- haugene utenfor gjerdene anslås til ca. 1500 m3. En massiv malmsone, ca. 20 cm mektig, med pyritt og noe kobberkis og antakelig sinkblende sees i nordveggen i en av skjæringene. Pyritt opptrer i 1-2 mm kuber. Det var umulig å få ut materiale fra sonen. Prøver ble imidlertid tatt fra sidebergartene. Både prøve HE0127.02 fra østsiden av malmsonen og prøve HE0127.03 fra vestsiden består begge av kvartsrik biotitt- og granatholdig kloritt-muskovittskifer med spredte streker av magnetkis og noe kobberkis. På østsiden av malmsonen var det også en kvartslinse med rik, men ujevnt fordelt impregnasjon av kobberkis og magnetkis.

Dette skjerpet består av en liten røskegrøft parallell strøket ved en bekk ca. 200 m SSV for søndre gruvefelt. Grøfta er ca. 8 m lang i strøkretningen, 2 m bred og inntil 1 m dyp i nordenden. Mineraliseringen er en en fortsettelse av Fådalsforekomsten og består av enkelte inntil 3 cm lag med massiv magnetkis med noe sinkblende og spredt kobberkis i biotittholdig kloritt-muskovittskifer. Stedvis opptrer spredte mm-store granater.

Skjerpet ligger nær toppen av høyden vest for Klettvangan gård og består av en liten vannfylt synk, ca. 3 x 2.5 m i omriss. Tippvolumet er ca. 40 m3. Den mineraliserte sonen er ca. 2 m bred og består stort sett av varierende impregnasjon av magnetkis med noe kobberkis, typisk i form tynne streker. Det er også enkelte 3-4 cm massive bånd og slirer med magnetkis. Mineraliseringen opptrer i noe grafitt- og biotittholdig kloritt-sericittskifer, dels granatførende (mm-store korn). Skjerpet ligger i strøkretningen ca. 850 m SSV for søndre gruvefelt i Fådalsgruvene og mineraliseringen tilhører nok samme forekomst.

Totalt gjengrodd røsk ca. 100 m vest for den nedlagte gården Haugen. Røsken er ca. 3 x 3 m i omriss. I nord av gropen er det blottlagt massiv magnetkis med 1-2 cm grunerittnåler, mens i sør er det blottlagt en grovkornet granat-grunerittbergart. Røsken ligger langs strøket ca. 1.9 km SSV for søndre gruvefelt i Fådalsgruvene og mineraliseringen representerer antakelig den mest distale del av Fådalsforekomsten.

Skjerp ca. 300 m NNV for nordre gruvefelt bestående av en vannfylt grop, ca. 12 m langs strøket og 8 m bred i sørenden (smalner inn mot nord). Tippvolumet er bare ca. 100 m3, så gropen må være grunn. Tipphaugen inneholder mange blokker med massiv magnetkis med noe kobberkis.

Skjerpet er det nordligste i Fådalsfeltet, ca. 450 m nord for nordre gruvefelt og består av en vannfylt synk ca. 4 x 3 m i omriss. Tippvolumet er bare 60 m3, så dybden er beskjeden (4-5 m). Den mineraliserte sonen sees som en rustsone i sørveggen på synken. Det er lite sulfider på tipphaugen, mest vanlig er en svak impregnasjon av finkornet magnetkis med noe kobberkis, dels i biotittrik matriks. Unntaksvis finnes blokker med massiv, finkornet magnetkis med noe sinkblende og aksessorisk kobberkis, typisk med spredte 2-10 mm sericitt- skifer- og kvarts-fragmenter (prøve HE0127.07).
