De fire største forekomstene er: Solligangen (skjerp nr. 1-3), Møllendalsaksla (Skjerp nr.6-20), Solliskar (hovedforekomst) og Kalvbakli (skjerp nr. 5). Alle disse opptrer langs en 4 km lang strøklengde. Tonnasje regnet etter brytning i 30 m dype dagbrudd for disse: Forekomst Lengde (m) Tykkelse (m) Dyp (m) Sp.v. Solliskar (hovedforek.+skjerp 4) og Kalvbakli (skjerp 5) er magnetitt-apatitt-rike med: 20-40 % Fe-magn. 1,3 % P 0,015 % S 0,07 % MnO 0,15 % TiO2 Solligangen (skjerp 1-3) er mineralisering med for det meste: 12-13 % Fe-magn. og 0,6 % S. Malmen er meget oppsplittet. Man kan innen hver av disse felter ikke følge malmen sammenhengende. Både i Solliskar og Kalvbakli er det funnet malmpartier som er helt omgitt av kalkspatmarmor. Denne oppstykkingen framgår også av magnetometerkart og av boringen i Solligangen (A/S Sydvaranger 1943). Et 1-2 km bredt og 5 km langt profil østover fra Solligården ble karlagt i M 1:5000 i 1981. Magnetittmalm-prøver ble tatt i Sollidalen, på Bøntuva og i Solliskaret. 23 utsøkt rike prøver er analysert ved Norsk Jernverk lab. 1981 (aritmetisk middel): 27,2 % Fe-tot., 20,6 % Fe-magn., 0,25 % TiO2, 0,15 % MnO, 0,48 % P og 0,034 % S. 4 prøver fra Solliskar gir: 42,8 % Fe-tot., 35,2 % Fe-magn., 0,15 % TiO2, 0,07 % MnO, 1,30 % P og 0,015 % S. Feltene karakteriseres på følgende måte: 1. Fløyfjellets forekomster ---------------------------- er mange mindre linser av meget avgrenset karakter. Her kan nevnes magnetittfunnene ved gården Holt og Kveldstuen på Tromsøyas SV-side. Alle er så små at de ikke har gitt grunnlag for videre prospektering. 2. Sollidalens forekomster. Den viktigste er Solligangen med lengde 1500 m og mineralisert bredde 8-40 m Forekomstens malmføring med 8-18 % Fe-magn. i 2-14 m tykke lag er meget oppstykket og skjæres i bh. 200-204. Malmen er ofte den grovkornete typen med mt., kvarts og noe hornblende. De oppstykkede 1-2 m tykke mt-malmlag nede i Sollidalen er nordlige utløpere av Solligangen. 3. Mølledalsakslens forekomster har større parti mellomliggende skifer enn i de andre felter. Magnetittkornene er opptil 5 mm store, dvs. grovkornet. 4. Solliskar-malmen er sammen med Kalvbakli-malmen den jevnt rikeste i hele feltet. Kun få og tynne skiferlag finnes. Solliskar-malmen tilhører typen finkornet magnetitt med epidot, hornblende og granat. Fra Solliskar-malmen går et 6-15 m tykt malmlag, "Langgangen", 100 m SV-over. 5. Kalvbakli-malmen ligger 350 m sør for Solliskar-malmen. Den består av to lag: Øvre og nedre Kalvbakli med bredde henholdsvis 15-60 m og 30-50 m. Det finnes 1-4 m tykke lag med 40-50 % Fe-tot. Kalvbakli og Solliskar er av samme type og er best oppmålt. Apatitt-innholdet er prorsjonalt med magnetitt-innholdet.

Abstract:
Rapporten gir en god beskrivelse av forekomsten, samt vurderer forekomsten opp mot andre Nord-Norske jernmalmforekomster. Malmen, som består av magnetitt, ligger i en veksling mellom skifer og kalk, sies å bestå av 35-40 % Fe, 0,33 % P og 0 - 0,4 % S. Det beskrives 4 forekomssteder som tilsammen skal gi minst 13 mill. tonn råmalm. Sammenlighet med andre Nord-Norske jernmalmer faller Tromsøsundets malmer meget heldig ut.

Abstract:
Rapporten består av en brevveksling mellom C. Liarn og H. H. Smith angående jernfeltet og det er også vedlagt en kjemisk analyse fra en kjerneboring. I brevene filosoferes det over de negative resultater de siste undersøkelsene viser i kontrast med det som er funnet før. De senere undersøkelsene dras i tvil. Analysene viser mellom 15 og 20 % Fe i prøvene. Som kjent består forekomsten av lagbundet magnetittmalm i veksling med skifer og kalk.

Abstract:
Rapporten gir først en meget god historisk oversikt over det som er gjort med forekomsten og gir oversikt over de rapporter som finnes. Det gis så en geologisk oversikt: Forekomsten er delt i fire felt: 1) Fløifjellet, 2) Sollidalen, 3) Møllendalaksla, 4) Sollikløft og Kalvebekkli. Malmen består av magnetitt som opptrer i lag mellom kalk og skifer, og tonnasjene anslås opp mot 100 mill. tonn. Gjennomsnittsgehalt er 35 % Fe, 0,07 % S, 0,33 % P. Mn er lav (0,16 %). Forekomsten regnes som fortsatt interesante.
