The Espenes Fe deposit was subject to test mining in 1907-1912 and diamond drilling in 1939. The ore layer is outcropping in small showings over a length of 6-7 km. The average thickness is c. 20 m. According to the drilling results, the content of total iron is on average 23% (16 % magnetic Fe) and phosphorous c. 0.8 %. This refers to a strike length of c. 900 m and an area of the ore plate of c. 22 000 sqm. The iron ore is situated just below an extensive layer of calcite-marble in quartz-amphibole-biotite schist. It is banded, fine- to medium-grained and contains quartz- and schist layers. Magnetite is the dominating iron oxide.

Abstract:
Rapporten omhandler de to forekomststedene svært så oversiktlig og greit. Begge forekomstene består av magnetitt som ligger i skifer og kalk. For hvert område beskrives de forskjellige funnpunktene og det gis en mengde kjemiske analyser og resultatene fra oppredningsforsøk. For Sørreisa er det tre ulike rapporter, og en av dem inneholder et flott geologisk kart. Rapporten ser ut til å være del av en offentlig publikasjon.

Abstract:
Som vanlig gis det en malerisk beskrivelse av beliggenheten. Bergartene består av kalkstein og glimmerskifer og malmen er magnetitt. Det beskrives 7 forekomster og malmen er opptil 30 m bred og kan ett sted følges 600 m (men da er ikke mektigheten 30 m alltid!). Mengden råmalm er anslått til 300 mill tonn. Kjemiske analyser gir følgende gehalter i ca. 30 % Fe, 0,1 - 0,2 % S, ca 1,0 % P. En enkelt prøve inneholdt 40 % Fe.

Abstract:
Rapporten beskriver beliggenhet, generell geologi og deretter de enkelte forekomstene i feltet. Berggrunnen består av en veksling av glimmerskifer og kalkstein med enkelte ganger av granitt og pegmatitt. Jernmalmen beskrives som en magnetitt-kvartshornblendeskifer. Den er som regel sterkt foldet og tektonisert. 14 enkeltforekomster beskrives mer eller mindre detaljert, de fleste har ca 35 % Fe. Til slutt spekuleres det over malmmengde og lønnsomhet og forfatteren ser optimistisk på begge.

Abstract:
Det er boret 8 hull i Espenes-feltet og 4 hull i Kjerring-feltet. Samtlige hull er logget og analysert på Fe og P. I Espenes er mektigheten på magnetitt-malmen fra 10-52 m, i middel 25 m. Gehalten er i middel 23 % Fe (total) og ca 16 % Fe (magnetisk) og ca 0,8 % P. Ved Kjerringa er mektigheten på malmen 4 - 12 m, gehalten er 24 % Fe og 0,8 % P. Rapporten er svært oversiktlig oppsatt med skisser av de forskjellige borhull.

Abstract:
Rapporten omhandler ganske detaljerte beskrivelser av de enkelte forekomster i feltet ( i alt 10 stk) samtidig som det gis analyserverdier for malmen. Malmen synes å innholde ca. 30 - 35 % Fe, svovel - og fosforinnholdet er omkring 0,2 - 0,5 % S og 0,5 - 1,0 % P der dette er analysert. De viktigste forekomstene heter Espenesleiet og Kjerringen. Malmen betår av magnetitt som ligger i glimmerskifer og kalkstein.

Abstract:
Forekomstens beliggenhet er gunstig m.h.p. nærhet til havn og veier, moderat høyde over havet, gode arbeids- og ernæringsforhold. Eiendomsforholdene er klare. Kraftspørsmålet står godt da to vannfall ligger nær. Forekomsten er meget stor. Særlig to malmdrag er gunstige, ved Espenes og Kjærringen. Disse gir et malmtverrsnitt på 130 kv/m. Totalt finnes det et malmtverrsnitt på omkring 200.000 m2. En vesentlig del av brytningen vil måtte skje under tak av fast fjell. Geologien i området består i alt vesentlig av glimmerskifer og kalkstein med jernmalmleier av Dunderlandsdalens sedimentære type. Malmen er en lettknust anrikningsmalm med magnetitt, mens jernglans er påvist som en skjeldenhet. Fosforgehalten er høy. Jerngehalten ligger anslagsvis mellom 2,5 - 3,5 tonn råmalm pr. tonn slig med 66 % jern og 10 % jern i avfallet.
