P.M. Ihlen, 25.08.2006

Abstract:
An account of the stratigraphy of the rock series is given and the lithologies are described. The latter comprise gneissose quartzofeldspathic sediments of probable Eocambrian age and Palaeozoic metasupracrustals and intrusives of the "Trondheim nappe". Some of these intrusives represent shallow bodies emplaced contemporaneously with the volcanic activity in Ordovician time, while others date to the main Caledonian period of deformation. More than 80 chemical silicate analyses accompany the description of the rocks. The rocks have undergone at least three phases of Caledonian folding. The supracrustal picture is dominated by the general inversion, which relates to the overturning of the eastern limb of a fan-shaped anticline encompassing this part of the Caledonian mountain chain. An increasing metamorphism, ranging from lower greenschist to higher almandine amphibolite facies, is recorded from southeast to northwest across the two map sheets. Finally, comments are given on ore-mineral occurrences. Two earomagnetic survey maps (on the scale 1:50 000) accompany the description.
