The profile at the Ollestad road (starting point and parking for a light track) was sampled along the road section in addition to scarce outcrops in the fields east of a relatively new cottage. The sequence is not continuously exposed, but close to the cottage a sequence of cm-dm-scale layered melanocratic gabbronorite was encountered. Both stratigraphically above and below this level the outcrops only display moderately layered leucogabbro. A shallow drill core was samples from this locality and the results from this sample will be accessible in this presentation by autumn 2006. Orientation of layering: approximately 160/80 west. In the area of Vasshus and Ollestad the thickness of MCUIVe zone has decreased slightly compared to the area of Bilstadvatnet and south of this sample section the geological unit gradually wedges out until the vanishing point at Heskestad 5 km further south. The total amount of apatite + ilmenite + magnetite has decreased with respect to Bilstadvatnet. A total of 8 samples represent a 270 m thick sequence of which the lower 180 m is of economic interest (25-31% norm value minerals). Norm calculations from XRF whole rock analyses gives an average of 10.6 % ilmenite, 7.1 % magnetite and 10.9 % apatite. The mineral composition of ilmenite and magnetite has been analysed by electron microprobe giving in average 1.12 % MgO in ilmenite and 0.93 % V2O3 in magnetite.
