Vakkeråsen er diamantboret i 1965 med 9 hull på tilsammen 1456 m. Geologisk kartlagt før 1970 av Bugge & Skordal, og 1983 - 84 av Iversen. Vakkeråsen utgjør den sentrale delen av det østlige malmdrag (se FI0012 Boris Gleb), som går like øst for Store Fiskevatn. Geologisk synes forekomsten enkel, bestående av en vestlig liggmalm (Bjørnevannsmalm) av bra til variabel kvalitet (26 % Fe magn.), og flere hengmalmsoner (Tverrdalsmalm) av tildels dårlig kvalitet (10 - 28 % Fe magn., gjennomsnittlig 17.5 %). Diamantboring viser flere steiltstående linser, som muligens er flanken av en tilnærmet vertikalstående synformstruktur. Malmføringen er på dypet oppsplittet av en rekke isoklinalt innfoldede hornblendegneissoner. Malmens utgående er 2.8 km lang, med en bredde mellom 10 og 40 m. De sørligste 800 m er mellom 5 og 10 m bred. I deler av området er malmen avbrudt av pegmatitter og små granitter. Den vestlige delen av liggmalmen er generelt best. Lenger øst i formasjonen finnes flere små og en større malmhorisont med lavt jerninnhold, 0 - 10 % Fe magn.
