Nederst i Jarfjord gneiskompleks finnes en mørk grønn amfibolitt som ofte har kvartsbåndet jernmalm. I svakere partier kan malmen lokalt ha et lite sulfidinnhold som gir den en rusten forvitringshud. En horisont av båndet amfibolitt med kvartsbåndet jernmalm har utgående over en strekning på ca. 3 km på østsiden av Kjelmøya. Den er sterkt gjennomsatt av migmatittgranitter, og jernmalmlinser og -bånd opptrer over iallefall de 2 nordligste km.
