Abstract |
Geology The Rånbogen section of the northern periphery of the Råna intrusion (see Bruvann for general description) consists of a grossly banded sequence of norite/gabbronorite and peridotite with occasional thinner zones of pyroxenite. The magmatic ricks are cut by several shear zones, at least two of which are related to wedges of country rock, which extend into the intrusion with a SW-NE strike. These shear zones carry graphite and lenses/bands of sulphide, several of which have been investigated with prospect pits. Weak sulphide dissemination is found in several of the peridotite bands. It is typical for the mineralizations in Rånbogen that the content of metals in the sulphide phase is low (< 3% Ni, whereas values up to 10% are found at Bruvann). This led to the conclusion (Barnes, 1987) that the Rånbogen mineralizations were generated in a later phase of sulphur saturation than those at Bruvann. PGE/Au values (7 samples) are low - max. 15 ppb Pt, 20 ppb Pd and 21 ppb Au. A turam and VLF survey of accessible parts of Rånbogen was carried out in 1977. This gave a good picture of near-surface conductors. Two drillholes from øk- kv. E 6450, N 4130, c. 120 m. a.s.l. were drilled in 1979, with plunges 45 and 60 degrees towards 215 degrees. The core gave information on the 3D geology but did not reveal new mineralizations of any significance. Scandinavian Highlands, following geochemical sampling and geophysical surveys (ground magnetic and EM Beep-mat) identified a number of targets on the ridge NW of Rånkjeipen (S of Rånbogen) at an altitude of 500-600m. Two holes were drilled (> 150m) at this level in 2006 and a further eight in 2007 (Technical report on the Råna Nickel-copper project, Ballangen, Norway. Exploration activities 2007, Scandinavian Highlands: BV Rapport nr 4957). Results these drillholes are not publicly available. The company has since reliquished its claims. |

Abstract: | |

Abstract: | |

Turam- og VLF-målinger, Råna nikkelmalmfelter: Rånbogen. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.1580A;12 pages |
Abstract: | |
Feltarbeidet foregikk i tiden 6. juni - 2. juli 1977. |

Unusual nickel and copper to noble-metal ratios from the Råna Layered Intrusion, northern Norway. |
;Norsk geologisk forening;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;Norsk geologisk tidsskrift; No.67 (3);215-231 pages |
Abstract: | |
Rocks from the Råna Layered Intrusion usually have low concentrations of noble metals but have normal Ni and Cu concentrations. Consequently the rocks have higher Cu/Ir, Ni/Ir, Cu/Pd and Ni/Pd ratios than extrusive rocks from the literature. If a small amount of sulphide was removed from the magma prior to its emplacement at Råna the magma would be deplected in noble metals relative to Ni and Cu, and rocks forming from it would have high Ni and Cu to noble-metal ratios. |
