The host rock of the mineralization at Tverrbrennfjellet mountain is an approximately 1H0.5km large gabbro body in a granitic to tonalitic country rock. The gabbro contains ultramafic lenses and granitic veins with different orientations. The gabbro has a rusted appearance near the summit where it contains sulphides. The sulphides pyrrhotite, pentlandite, and chalcopyrite are enriched in several lesser irregular lenses of a few decametres length and a few metres wide. Boyd & Nixon 1985 mention contents of 1wt% Ni and 0.5wt% Cu with 2.75-4.4wt% in the pure sulphide. Exploration pits have been blasted in the two richest ore bodies. At UTM coordinates 499280 7432220, there is a 1H1m pit in the hanging contact of an EW running 2m thick granite vein steeply dipping N, with a 1m3 tailings heap. The vein continues for another 20-30m W with a decreasing ore content. The coarse grained gabbro contains pyrrhotite, pentlandite, and chalcopyrite over about 10m width, the richest part where the pit is located. About 20m farther E, another pit 3H2H1m was blasted, having a 3m3 tailings heap. The gabbro is coarse grained with evenly distributed 3-4mm large pyrrhotite grains (sample 05-06). In addition, medium grained gabbro contains disseminated Pyrrhotite. Some 3m E of this pit, a 2m thick NE-SW running granite vein. From there 10m N, a few ultrabasite lenses (08) crop out. At the very down end of the rock wall, at UTM coordinates 499320 7432300 (main pit), a 7H2m and up to 4m deep cut has been driven into a NE-SW running granite vein and 5m into sulphide impregnated gabbro. This gabbro is medium grained and partially richly mineralized (09-11) with locally semi-massive pyrrhotite, pentlandite, and chalcopyrite. Locally, the gabbro has become schistose. About 3m SE for the end of the rock face, another 2H2H2m pit is made into the same mineralization. Altogether, the total tailings amount to 40m3. The mineralization is up to 7-8m wide and 15-20m long. Like said, rusted parts commonly occur in the low-sulphide gabbro, for instance at UTM coordinates 499150 7432000 (01). |
