The name Gudmundvik as used in the archives is misleading. Locals inform that in the early 1900's exploration samples were blasted out from the Høgsetdalen mineralization. About 100m NNE of this locality, some 300 tonne quartz was taken out by Sulitjelma Gruber in the 1930's. the mineralization is related to two smaller doming gabbro lenses near the shoreline. Only 1m3 has been blasted out. The gabbro lenses are 2m apart and 2m and 5m in diameter, respectively. They consist mainly of coarse grained amphibole and biotite (locally the main mineral) with disseminated and veined pyrite (estimated at 8vol%), some pentlandite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite (ca. 0.5wt% Cu); samples 02-03). A 5cm thick pegmatitic vein rich in pyrite occurs in the one gabbro (04). On top of the small gabbro domes lies white quartzite. The contact zone between the gabbro and quartzite consists of a 2cm thick garnet chlorite schist. This contact zone, the garnet chlorite schist and another 2cm into the quartzite contains some fine grained pyrite, pyrrhotite, pentlandite, and chalcopyrite as disseminated grains (01). About 300m NE along the water line, some rock has been blasted during the construction of a boat shed. There, coarse grained pyrite crystals occur along the contact between mica schist and marble, which contact is partly pegmatitic.
