Forekomsten ligger 10 km rett S for Skorovatn. Adkomst derfra delvis etter en sti forbi drikkevannskilden til Skorovatn. Alternativ adkomst fra Berg gård i Sanddøladalen eller Arnbygget 6 km nordvest for Skjelbreitunet. Berggrunnen i området består av et grønnsteinsbelte inne i Limingengruppens arkoser. Grønnsteinen er intrudert av utallige trondhjemittlegemer. Området har mange punkter med mineralisering, Cu/Mo i kvartsårer i trondhjemitten og svovelkis/kobberkis disseminert og i årer i grønnsteinen. Området er tolket å tilhøre et stort porphyry-system som omfatter Fremstfjell-Skardfjell og Gaizervatn. Jane Enderby (1983) foreslår en genetisk modell der de tre delområdene representerer ulike nivåer i plutonen. Hun mener at Gaizervatn ligger høyest, slik at malmpotensialet her er det største sammenlignet med f.eks. Skardfjell der hun tror hele den eventuelle malmen er erodert bort. Det mindre skjerpet, Blåmuren består av en 30-40 cm mektig jernformasjon (magnetitt-pyritt-kvarts) som opptrer i tilknytning til en 5 - 15 m mektig chert/blåkvartsitt i grønnstein.

Skjerpet ligger ved en magnetittførende chert (blåkvarts) som er 5 - 15m mektig og kan følges over få hundre meter. I tilknytning til chert finnes få dm brede magnetittbenker, dels med pyritt bånd.
