The Tysfjord tectonic window is a composite Proterozoic granite complex that is encompassed by Caledonian nappes. The different granite melt batches constituting the Tysfjord complex possibly yield variable economic REE potential. The location given here is somewhat arbitrary within the Tysfjord window; further work would allow identifying more precise locations of interest. |

Soil geochemical data from Nord-Salten, Nordland |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;RAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.2013.015;101 sider |
Abstrakt: | |
The geochemical study presented was carried out in an area dubbed Nord-Salten, which mainly covers the basement rocks of the Tysfjord granite, as well as interleaved and adjacent metasediments of Caledonian nappes. Prior geochemical surveys of surficial deposits on the 1 sample/40km2 scale, as well as surveys covering smaller areas in higher detail, pointed to this area for a more detailed survey, particularly with focus on rare earth elements . Samples of till and loose weathered material from a total of 877 sites in a loose 2x2 km sampling grid were collected, dried, sieved <2mm and analysed for aqua regia extractable content of 65 elements, including the REE suite of elements, and following tight quality control procedures. The regional distribution of many elements clearly reflects geological boundaries. Maximum concentrations observed for the sum of the REEs is 1490 mg/kg and several clusters of high REE values occur within the granite, as well as within the mangerite in coastal Hamarøy. Several additional geochemical anomalies have been identified. |

The Archaean-Proterozoic boundary beneath the Caledonides of northern Norway and Sweden: U-Pb, Rb-Sr, and isotope data from the Rombak-Tysfjord |

The Baltic Shield includes an Archaean craton in northeastern Finland. Early Proterozoic accretions to this Archaean craton comprise of (1) the Svecofen- nian domain, which consists of island arc volcanic and sedimentary rocks that formed at 1.94 - 1.85 Ga and that between 1.83 and 1.78 Ga became inten- sely intruded by post-orogenic granites and (2) the Transscandinavian Granite Porphyry Belt (TGPB), which represents a 1.80 - 1.70 Ga magmatic arc at the western and southwestern margin of the Svecofennian domain. The TGPB granites extend across the boundary between the Archaean and Svecofennian crustal blocks. This boundary is in Finland a dextral strike-slip fault zone (Raahe- Ladoga zone) that to the west (Sweden and Norway) widens to a ca. 250 km wide heterogeneous zone. |

Potentials of rare earth element and Zr-, Be-, U-, Th-, (W-)mineralisations in central and northern Nordland |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;RAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.2010.037;85 s. sider |
Abstrakt: | |
The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) was contacted by Nordland Mineral (T. Vrålstad) in May 2010 to evaluate the potential of economic rare-earth-element (REE: Ce-Lu, Y) and Zr-mineralisations and related Be-, U-, Th-, (W-) mineralisations in Proterozoic basement windows and overlying Caledonian nappe complexes in central and northern Nordland between Mo i Rana in the south and Ofotfjorden in the north. The economic background for the study is the increasing demand for several of these elements. The general aim is to identify Zr-REE mineralisations with =2 wt.% REE(+Y) which are possibly enriched in Be, U and Th as well. Accessible literature and mineralogical, geochemical and geophysical data on REE-mineralisations and Zr-, Be-, U-, Th-, (W-) mineralisations, which might be associated with REE-mineralisations, were studied in order to indicate potential target areas for future exploration activity. The primary focus was to evaluate the potential of (1) the Høgtuva Be-REE-U-Sn mineralisation, (2) strongly fractionated granite intrusions, (3) REE-fluorite mineralisations, (4) regional REE anomalies in stream sediments and tills, (5) REE-silicates (allanite) in granites, (6) NYF pegmatites, (7) hydrothermal Fe-deposits with associated REE enrichments, (8) Th- and allanite-bearing rocks by checking regional radiometric measurements and (9) basement granites which possibly contain 2-3% REE-oxides by checking NGU databases. The results of the study indicate that mineralisations and mineralisation types named under points (1), (3), (6) and (7) are currently not of economic interest. The major outcome of the study is, that some of the more evolved Proterozoic TIB- type granites (TIB – Trans-Scandinavian Igneous Belt) of the Tysfjord basement window have a potential for sub-economic to economic Zr-REE-mineralisations. The possible carriers of the mineralisation are zircon and allanite. The identified Zr-REE-enriched TIB-2 granites are SiO2-rich, subalkaline, metaluminous A-type (anorogenic) granites with low (Na2O+K2O)/CaO ratios (<6; Figs. 37-40). They represent a specific final fractionation trend of the TIB-2 granites. These mineralisation types are relatively unknown but have been described from Saudi Arabia. Possibly exploration target areas for Zr-REE-mineralised TIB-granites are suggested. |

Potential of rare earth element and Zr-, Be, U-, Th-, (W-) mineralisations in central and northern Nordland - Part 2 |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;RAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.2011.021;56 sider |
Abstrakt: | |
In this report results of the investigation of potential rare earth elements (REE) and Zr-, Be, U-, Th-, (W-) mineralisations in central and northern Nordland are presented. The investigated and sampled mineralisations were proposed in NGU report 2009.037 on the basis if existing reports and geochemical data sets. The investigation targets were evolved Proterozoic TIB-type granites (TIB = Trans-Scandinavian Igneous Belt) of the Tysfjord, Sommerset and Rishaugfjell basement windows, in particular, the Hatten- Tilthornet massif, Hundholmen, Kjerrfjellet, Hellemobotn, Reinoksskardet, upper Gjerdalen areas, the Sommerset basement Window, Rismålsvatn, and Memaurvatn. The general aim was to identify Zr-Ree mineralisations with >= 2wt.% REO (including Y2O3; REO - rare earth oxides) which are possibly enriched in Be, U and Th as well. |
