Beliggenhet ----------- I åpent terreng rundt det idylliske Sørvatnet finnes flere rustsoner i avstanden 0-200 m fra vannet. Særlig på vestsiden av vannet er det svært lite overdekke. Geologi ------- Rustsonene opptrer i en lys grønnstein langs kontakten til mørk grønnstein og skyldes flere magnetittbåndede vasskishorisonter. Sonen på østsiden av vannet opptrer over minst 50 m nær vannkanten, og her varierer tykkelsen mye langs strøket, men jevnt over er det ca. 0.5 m massiv kis. I sekvensen finnes også magnetittførende chert-lag (blåkvartsitt). I området NNØ herfra er det rapportert om en rekke slike vasskis-chert-horisonter. Forekomstene ble oppdaget i 1914.

På vestsiden av vannet sees den mest markerte horisonten ca. 150 m ovenfor vannet der den er blottet flere 100 m langs strøket. Partier viser svovelkis kun disseminert eller som uregelmessige årer i tett chertaktig grønnstein. Vasskis sees også, men den er tynnere enn på østsiden av vannet.
