The Feragen chromium ore field is associated with the large bodies of ultramafic rocks, mainly altered to serpentinites, located to the SE of Røros. The main rock types are variably serpentinized dunite and peridotite (cpx-bearing harzburgite to cpx-poor lherzolite). Cr-ores int the form of chromite are exclusively hosted in the dunite. Typical podiform ores predominate, though semi-stratiform ore bodies are also present. Ore-types include fine-grained impregnations, banded and semimassive/massive (> 55% Cr-oxide) types. Generally the chromite-ores have low PGE values (0.1-0.2 ppm), except the Osthammeren deposit, which has an average grade of 1.5 ppm total PGE. Between 1820 and 1940 27 500 – 32 500 t of chromium ore was produced from mainly three mines (Leigh, Ler and Skal mines).

Abstract:
Undersøkelsene inngår i en serie forsøksmålinger ( Råna, Feragen, Ertelien, Høgåsen, Skjækerdalen) med det formål å undersøke geofysiske metoders an- vendbarhet for påvisning av nikkel- og kromforekomster. Feragen kromfelt er beskrevet av bergingeniør G. Engzelius (eksamenarbeide NTH 1940) og av dr. G. Richter (tysk, datert Oslo 1943). I en peridotitt- formasjon av omfang 5,3 x 3,2 km ligger en rekke skjerp og gruber hvor det vesentlig i forige århundre, har foregått drift på krom. Ved foreliggende undersøkelse ble det utført magnetiske og elektromagnetiske målinger samt elektriske feltkvotientmålinger i et område som er ca. 1,8 km2 i utstrekning. Man var påforhånd klar over at utsiktene til positive resul- tater av undersøkelsene måtte betegnes som mindre lovende. Dette er blitt bekreftet idet ingen av de metoder som ble forsøkt viste seg å være egnet for påvisning av krom.

Abstract:
MMålingene foregikk i NGU's laboratorium og i alt 11 prøver ble undersøkt. De utførte målinger viser at malmprøvene stort sett har samme ledningsevne som den omgivende bergart. Det er derfor sannsynlig at indusert poarisasjon (IP-målinger) er den eneste elektriske prospekteringsmetode som det er grunn til å forsøke i Feragenfeltet.

Abstract:
I forbindelse med undersøkelser av Statens bergrettigheter på kromitt i Røros-Feragen-området er det i perioden 1977-1979 foretatt geologiske og geofysiske (IP, magnetometri, EM, radiometri, gravimetri) undersøkelser og diamantboringer. Det er ikke påvist kromitt-mineraliseringer av økonomisk interessant størr- elsesorden, og det er heller ikke påvist eller utredet andre anvendelses- muligheter av økonomisk interesse for de ultramafiske bergarter som kromitt- forekomstene er tilknyttet. Rapporten gir resultater fra diamantboringene i feltet sommeren 1979. Rapporten er en oppsummering av de undersøkelser som er foretatt.
