Description
Det er drevet prøvedrift på forekomsten sannsynligvis en gang på 1800-tallet. "Gamle Vasli grube" ble mutet i 1902. Mineraliseringen ble undersøkt i 1970 av Lindberg (1971) og i 1976 av Nilsen & Rohr-Torp (1976). Folldal Verk A/S målte i 1985 geofysikk i stikningsnett over forekomsten. To kissoner løper parallelt i NV-SØ-lig retning i en vekslende serie av gråbrune, finkornige kvartsfyllitter og båndkvartsitt. Den SV-lige er undersøkt med en synk, nå vannfylt, og en 10 m lang NØ-SV-gående grøft 3 m NV for synken (tilsammen 30 m3 tipp). I synken er den semimassive magnetkis-svovelkis-mineraliseringen minst 2 m mektig, i grøfta er den sammenfoldet til 4-5 m mektighet med semimassiv magnetkis i amfibolholdig biotitt-fyllitt med dm-mektige svovelkislag og båndkvartsitt med magnetkis-impregnasjon. I NØ-enden av grøfta, 4 m høyere i stratigrafien, står nok en mineralisering, 3 m mektig, som sannsynligvis er den samme foldede horisont. Strøkretning: 330/60. Den NØ-lige kissonen er oppfart med en 25 m lang NV-SØ-gående røsk langs kissonen (25 m NØ for synken). En 16 m lang dagstrosse, som fortsetter i en 6 m lang stoll, er drevet inn i SSV-lig retning 5 m under utgående. 20 m NV for stollinnslaget er det et lite skjerp i samme mineralisering. Kissonen er 2 m mektig og består av semimassiv magnetkis i amfibol-biotittskifer. Den fører også et ca. 0.5 m mektig lag av finkornig semimassiv til massiv svovelkis i hvit kvarts-feltspat-serisittskifer. Sidestein er kvarts-feltspatrik fyllitt. Foldeakse og lineasjon: 125/30-40. Foliasjon i utgående over stollinnslaget: 315/80. Kissonene er oppsprukket og forkastet etter et sprekkesystem med retning 220-240/45-55, langs hvilke også metertykke trondhjemittganger løper.

Abstract:
Within the southern and central parts of the Trondheim region of the Norwegian Caledonides a great number of small, stratabound cupriferous pyrite deposits are confined to mafic metavolcanics of the Gula, Støren and Fundsjø Groups of the Lower Palaeozoic succession. The deposits occuring within, or in close contact with the metavolcanics are characterized by their association with minor manganiferous oxide/silicate iron-formations - better known as "vasskis" ore type - within the metamorphic low-grade areas. The iron-fprmations of the metamorphic higher grade terrains on the other hand, which are extensively developed within the Gula Group, are mostly of a pyrrhotitic sulphide/silicate type and sulphurization processes are thought to have played an important role during the metamorphism. The pyrite deposits occurring adjacent to the metavolcanics bear no relationship to the iron-formations. They are embedded in pelitic, often carbonaceous assemblages (Gula Group) or within tuffitic members of the volcanogene Støren Group, and they are thought to represent re-sedimented (reworked) deposits. The pyrite deposits display varying degree of metamorphic reconstitution and a tectonic control has apparently determined their disc- or ruler-shaped morphology.
