From Nilsen, 1971: The deposit lies within metavolcanics (amphibolite and minor felsic metavolcanics) near the southern tips of a wedge of sillimanite-bearing biotite schists. The rocks are intensely folded, and the metamorphic grade is high, as the result of contact metamorphism due to the Hyllingen gabbro complex. The deposit consists of an upper pyritic ore body associated with metavolcanics and a lower, more copper-rich ore body associated with gedrite-rich schist. The pyrite body is a regular, elongated plate/lens with an average thickness of 3.5 m and can be traced 300 m in the strike direction (N-S, dip 60-80 degr. E). In addition to pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite are accessory phases. Main gangue phases are quartz and mica. The copper content of the ore is low (0.1-0.5 %), while sulphur content is c.a 35 %. The copper-rich lower body is comprised of a network of thin, irregular layers lying within the gedrite rocks, close to the metavolcanics in the east. The ore layers and lenses show a tendency of branching, and often crosscut the main foliation. A single layer may be from a few cm to 4 m in thickness. The total thickness of the zone is ca. 20 m. The ore consists of chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite in a medium-grained brownish-grey gedrite rock. Iron oxides occur as minor ore constituents. The ore has a higher Cu content than the upper body (0.5-1.5 %) and lower sulphur content (20-30 %).

Sulphide mineralization and wall rock alteration at Rødhammeren mine, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway.
;Norsk geologisk forening;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;Norsk geologisk tidsskrift; No.51 (3);329-354 pages
Abstract:
The present paper deals with the geological setting and the petrology of the wall rocks and ores at Rødhammeren pyrite deposits, Haltdalen, Sør-Trøndelag. The sulphide mineralization has taken place in the southern part of a narrow zone of sillimanite-bearing biotite schists, near the border of enclosing metavolcanics (amphibolites and quartz keratophyres). There are two principal ore bodies: a lens-shaped upper pyrite body and a lower, irregular and veined pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite body. The wall rocks are affected by a Mg metasomatism which has transformed the biotite schists into cordierite-bearing anthophyllite-gedrite rocks and the quartz keratophyres into cordierite quartzites. An epigenetic origin is suggested and the deposit is classified as being of the "Falu type".

Abstract:
The occurences described in this paper form a connection between th mining districts around Røros to the south and those around Meråker to the north. The occurences lie in mountain regions partly above the forest line. The list on page 12 contains the names of all known occurrences of whatever size within the district considered. Pl. I is a geological outline map of the district, compiled from maps in the Norwegian Geological Survey. In a geological summary on pages 18-27 it is shown that no pyrite occurrences of economic importance so far have been found in an eastern zone along the Swedish boundary where the rocks consist of hard schist with sparagmites, and igneous rocks. Neither have such occurrences been found in a zone of "Stuedalsskifer" and an other zone of "Gulaskifer" towards west, both indicated on the map. The occurrences of pyrite are chiefly found in connection with fine grained, light green or gravish, partly feldspar bearing schist and in connection with green schists, mostly fine grained hornblende schists. All these zones of schist gnereally strike north and dip west. The pyrite bearing schist lie on both sildes of a large zone of igneous rocks extending from Kjølifjell in the south over Hyllingen and Melshogna to Fangen in the Meråker district in the north.
