Mining in the Bøylestad area consists of several minor pits and, and the 1-3 m thick ore has been exploited to a depth of 120 m. At least 6000 tonnes has been mined over a period of 70 years in the 19th century. The massive ore is located within altered amphibolite and comprises massive pyrrhotite and sphalerite and veinlets of chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite.

Abstract:
The formerly mined Skyttemyr-Bøylestad ore is situated in the Froland district of the Bamble belt, Norway. The ore is a 2.5 km long horizon with Au-bearing, massive pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-bodies, centrally located in the at least 15 km long north-east-striking Skyttemyr sulfide zone. This zone marks the border between a thick "normal" volcanic-sedimentary package to the east. Alternating biotite-quartz gneiss, garnet amphibolite, sillimmanite gneiss, quartzites, calc-silicates, carbonates, albitites and sulfide-bearing or rusty units constitute the last mentioned. The Skyttemyr sone is the most Au and sulfide-rich zone in the Al-rich package. East of this only traces of sulfide are found. Highest Au-values (max. = 2.94 ppm) are clearly confined to the central-most Cu-rich massive ore at Skyttemyr, and the Au-content decreases to trace values 1 km north and south of this location. Abstract:
Forekomsten omfatter Skytmyr, Boilestad og Sletne gruver sammen med flere skjerp. Malmsonen er omgitt av gneiser og kan følges opptil 3,2 km. Mineraliseringen er svovel og magnetkis med noe kobber. Det blir gitt en beskrivelse av gruvene og skjerpene mellom dem, hvor det tilslutt er behandlet gruvenes økonomi.

Det midtre dagbruddet har retning 12º og ligger 80 m sør for dobbelsjaktene i hovedbruddet. Det er et 35 m langt, opptil 6 m dypt og 1,5-2 m bredt dagbrudd med en vannfylt sjakt midt i og en mindre stoll i sørenden. En liten skråsjakt fører ned til denne stollen fra sørvest. Massiv malm er ikke blottet i bruddet, kun svak disseminasjon av magnetkis og dels kobberkis opptrer i veggene som består av dels silisifisert og biotittisert amfibolitt med foliasjon 6º/55º. Sidebergartene er dermed de samme som i hovedbruddet. Enkelte kvarts- og pegmatittslirer finnes også. Ved skråsjakta finnes en 40 cm bred sone med kraftig disseminasjon og mange årer/strenger av sulfider; i hovedsak magnetkis og kobberkis (prøve .02). Bergartene svinger der mer sørvest og malmsona har retning 50º/80º. Videre sørover stryker bergartene mer nord-sør igjen. Semi-massiv magnetkis+sinblende breksjetype malm med kvartsøyne og bergartsfragmenter er tatt fra mineraliserte blokker i nordenden av bruddet (.03).

Det sørligste bruddet har retning 8º og ligger lengst sør i hogstfeltet. Det er 12 m langt, 2-3 m bredt og opptil 3 m dypt, og er dels gjenrast og gjengrodd. Kraftig forvitra og skifrig biotittgneis i heng har foliasjon 14º/45º. En tipphaug sørøst for åpningen inneholder de samme bergartene og mineraliseringstypene som ved bruddene i nord. I tillegg finnes magnetkis-kobberkis aggregater/strenger i grovkornet, kvarts-feltspat pegmatitt (prøve .01).

Forekomsten består av en loddsjakt med 2,5 x 4 m lange vegger omgitt av en 0,5 m bred og høy ringmur. Ned til vannspeilet er det 1,5 m. En tipp på 120 m³ viser at sjakta er relativt dyp. To mindre grunne gjengrodde groper finnes mellom denne sjakta og Sletne nord som ligger 80 m lengre nord. Pga. de glatte veggene er det ikke mulig å få noe inntrykk av mineraliseringen i sjakta. Amfibolitt, dels silifisert og med disseminasjon av sulfider dominerer i ringmuren. Semi-massiv magnetkis-sinkblende malm med spor av kobberkis i en kvarts-amfibolrik grunnmasse finnes også (prøve .07).

Dette er en 9 m lang, 1-2 m bred og opptil 2 m høy vannfylt, dagskjæring med retning 16º. Den er omgitt av en ringmur og i tillegg finnes en tipp på 60 m³. Kvartsrik glimmergneis med foliasjon 14º/55º er blottet i heng, mens svakt sulfiddisseminert amfibolitt finnes i ligg. Malmsona er ikke blottet. I ringmuren og på tipp finnes massiv magnetkis-sinkblende med spor av kobberkis, mens strenger/aggregater med kobberkis-magnetkis i tilknytning til kvartslinser i amfibolitten er mest vanlig (prøve .06).
