The Skyttemyr deposit is hosted by amphibolite belonging to the Bamble Complex. The main period of mining was 1866-1885, but some sources indicate mining for c. 70 years. The production for the main period was in the order 10 000 t. The ore zone was followed to a depth of 200 m and 300 m along strike. The thickness of the outcropping ore zone is 50-60 cm and consist of a network of pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite in felsic groundmass. Dump samples show that the main mineralization is partly semimassive with mainly pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite and minor galena and fahlore. Gangue consists of quartz, chlorite, feldspar and calcite. The dump samples shows an significant enrichment of gold in the ore. Average of 8 dump samples yield 3.45 % Cu, 3.60 % Zn, < 0.01 % Pb, 33 g/t Ag, 2.4 g/t Au. The Bøylestad deposit c. 2.5 km to the NW is quite similar, and was mined at the same time. More than 6000 t ore was produced from this deposit, which consists of a 1-3 m more massive ore.

Abstract:
Forekomsten omfatter Skytmyr, Boilestad og Sletne gruver sammen med flere skjerp. Malmsonen er omgitt av gneiser og kan følges opptil 3,2 km. Mineraliseringen er svovel og magnetkis med noe kobber. Det blir gitt en beskrivelse av gruvene og skjerpene mellom dem, hvor det tilslutt er behandlet gruvenes økonomi.

Abstract:
Fahlsbåndsonene har et meget regelmessig forløp og synes ikke å ha tilkytning til noen bestemt bergartstype. Sonene kjennetegnes med rustutfelling, et sort belegg og alltid lukt av svovel. Enkelte steder forekommer flere parallelle soner. Synlige kiskorn er ikke alltid til stede, men ved Skytmyr har fahlbåndsonen dannet grunnlag for gruvedrift.

Abstract:
The formerly mined Skyttemyr-Bøylestad ore is situated in the Froland district of the Bamble belt, Norway. The ore is a 2.5 km long horizon with Au-bearing, massive pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-bodies, centrally located in the at least 15 km long north-east-striking Skyttemyr sulfide zone. This zone marks the border between a thick "normal" volcanic-sedimentary package to the east. Alternating biotite-quartz gneiss, garnet amphibolite, sillimmanite gneiss, quartzites, calc-silicates, carbonates, albitites and sulfide-bearing or rusty units constitute the last mentioned. The Skyttemyr sone is the most Au and sulfide-rich zone in the Al-rich package. East of this only traces of sulfide are found. Highest Au-values (max. = 2.94 ppm) are clearly confined to the central-most Cu-rich massive ore at Skyttemyr, and the Au-content decreases to trace values 1 km north and south of this location. Dette er en 8 m lang og 3-4 m bred vannfylt gruveåpning som ligger 20 m SSV for den sørligs sjaktåpningen. En 0,5-1 m bred malmsona med orientering 2º/70º er blotta i nordveggen. Aggregater og årenettverk av kobberkis opptrer i grå, kvartsrik bergart (prøve .06) som også er gjennomtrengt av flere, svakt sulfidførende kvartsganger. Den overlagres i øst av biotittførende hornblendegneis med foliasjon 12º/80º.

Et 8 m langt, 2 m bredt og opptil 4-5 m høyt dagbrudd er anlagt øst for sjaktåpningene med retning 338º fra vannet. Dette går bare i sidestein (i heng av malmsona) som består av finkornet, kvartsittisk gneis. Den gjennomskjæres av 10 cm brede rette kvartsganger og sene kvarts-kalkspat-hornblende årer. Ingen sulfidmineralisering er registrert.

En 12 m lang, 2-3 m bred og 2-3 m høy dagskjæring med retning 5° går opp langs en rygg fra vannkanten, lengst sør i gruveområdet. Den er dels gjenrast. En 20-30 cm bred sone (10°/80°) med sulfidmineralisering som består av svak disseminasjon og korte strenger med kobberkis og magnetkis opptrer i finkornet biotittgneis (prøve .07). Analyser viser at denne sona også er noe anriket på gull (1,0 g/t ). Biotittgneis finnes også i ligg og er dels båndet og granatførende, mens amfibolrik gneis/amfibolitt opptrer i hengen.15 m lengre nord ligger et mindre, vannfylt og gjengrodd skjerp.
