Forekomsten ligger tett ved veien mellom Moen og Notodden på sørsida av Heddøla. Den ble funnet omkring 1645 og drevet av Skibdalen kobberverk i perioden 1645-53. Gruva ble senere drevet fra 1759 til 1771. Den er delvis nedrast og består i dag av en dagskjæring som er ca. 18 m lang og 2-4 m bred. Avsynkningen skal ha vært 30 m lang og 10-12 m dyp med en 27 m lang tverrstoll drevet fram til denne. I veggen finnes uregelmessig kobberglans-mineralisering i finkornet kvarts-feltspat gneis. En svakt mineralisert, 50-60 cm bred kvartsgang opptrer diskordant foliasjonen i gneisen. Mindre mengder kalkspat og amfibol/kloritt finnes også i gangen. Relativ rik kobberglans+bornitt mineralisering i kvarts er prøvetatt fra tippen. I følge tidligere rapporter er kobbermineraliseringene knyttet til en NV-SØ orientert kvartsgang med fall 35º mot sørvest. |
