The Utsjøen mine is situated in the western hillside in the upper part of the Migerdalen valley, 1 km SE of Lake Utsjøen. It is situated inside a 200 m wide zone containing several parallel NE-SW-trending quartz which are bridged by short N-S striking veins. The vein system extends for than 2 km between Hofossen in the south to Steinsjøhøgda hills in the north. The veins vary from veins of massive milky quartz via quartz veins with abundant sericite-altered fragments of the wall-rock gneisses to quartz-cemented breccias and zones consisting of numerous parallel and interconnected veins. The host rocks which show variable intensity of sericitisation, comprise migmatitic gneisses of the Romerike Complex being truncated by thin bodies of gneiss granites, megacrystic gneiss granites and aplitic gneisses of the Solør Complex. The veins comprise erratically distributed sulphides and associated native gold. High gold concentrations are found in the veins near Hofossen (W. Tveter, pers. comm., 1990), chalcopyrite is dominant at Styggberget whereas chalcopyrite-galena is the main paragenesis at Høgemyr. The Utsjøen mine comprises a 20 m long trench into the hillside that ends in a 15 m long burnt adit. It has been worked along a 2-4 m wide vein of milky quartz which contains crystal interstices being filled with red K-feldspar, pyrite, chalcopyrite and rare bornite. The vein contain abundant sericite-altered fragments of the fine-grained granitic migmatites along the vein contact. The alteration envelopes extend for several meters away from the vein contact. The Utsjøen vein can be followed towards the NE where some small pits have been blasted into parallel veins of fine-grained quartz with hematite-stained crystal-lined vugs. Towards the SW the Mårramyra prospect has been worked on two parallel quartz veins with widths of 1.2 m and 0.4 m. They contain cavities and vein-parallel fractures filled with pyrite and chalcopyrite. None of the samples from the Utsjøen mine and immediately adjacent prospects contain more than 0.6 g/t Au.
