Forekomsten representerer et belte med grafittførende skifer som opptrer på nordsiden av Lysevatnet. Forekomsten ble oppdaget og undersøkt av Mineralutvikling A/S i 1986-1989. Forekomster er blottet over et område på ca. 1000 m2. Karbongehalten i grafittskiferen ligger på rundt 15-20%. I 1988 utførte NGU CP- og VLF-målinger på forekomsten og i 2001 en strukturgeologisk kartlegging. Strukturgeologiske undersøkelser viser en svært komplisert folding som gjør malmkroppenes forløp vanskelig å forutsi. I 2014 ble det foretatt en ny innsamling av prøver fra forekomsten som viser at det gjennomgående er relativt lave gehalter av grafitt. Karbonanalyser viser et spenn fra ca. 3 til 10%. forekomsten er imidlertid stor og størstedelen av malmkroppen går i dypet. Det er anslått at slått at hele Bukken inkludert Bukkemoen har indikerte resurser på 56 Mt ed 6.5% grafitt.

Structural controls on graphite mineralisation, Senja, Troms

Abstract:
Strukturanalyser av 6 grafittforekomster har blitt gjennomført på Senja, Troms. Detaljert 1:5000 kartlegging har blitt gjennomført på 4 av disse forekomster i tillegg til innsamlingen av prøver for grafittanalyser. Deler av Trælenforekomsten er kartlagt i målestokk 1:400. regionale undersøkelser har gitt ytterligere kunnskaper om strukturene i forekomstene og bidratt til å sette forekomstenes geometri inn i en regional sammenheng. Hovedmålet for denne studeien har vært å karakterisere de komplekse strukturelle hendelser som både dannet og modifiserte grafittforekomstene. Studien viser at grafittmineraliseringen har nær sammenheng med utviklingen av F2 folder, fordi grafitten er best utviklet i forbindelse med nord-sør strøkende F2 foldeakser. F2 foldene er deformerte av D3 deformasjonsfase langs omtrent øst-vestgående foldeakser. Dette har dannet komplekse flerfase foldegeometrier. Geografisk sett, er grafitten mest utpreget der F3 strukturer krysser F2 strukturer som inneholder grafitt. Utbredelsen av grafittblottinger henger nøye sammen med om både F2 og F3 skjærsoner er til stede. Lokalt (F2) eller regionalt (F3) kan "skjære ut" grafittblottingene og dermed begrenser utbredelsen av grafittforekomstene. Dette studium viser derfor at kunnskap om kombinasjonene av D2 og D3 strukturer kan skape en bedre forståelse av grafittforekomstenes geometri. I noen av forekomstene (Trælen og Finnkona) har ytterligere en deformasjonsfase (D4) blitt identifisert, en fase som har aldri vært dokumentert før. Dette antyder ennå mer kompleksitet i forståelsen av disse forekomstene. Det er åpenbart i mange av disse forekomstene at både F2 og F3 foldingene er svært usylindriske. Dette viser at det er problematisk å bruke småfold geometrier for å fastsette storskala forekomstgeometri. Helicopter-borne magnetic, electromagnetic and radiometric survey at Northern Senja in 2012, 2013 and 2014, Troms County

Abstract:
As a part of the MINN project, NGU conducted an airborne geophysical survey at Senja in July-August 2012 and August 2013 (Rodionov et al. 2013). For special reasons, a small area were not measured until September 2014. This report describes and documents the acquisition, processing and visualization of all recorded datasets from Senja. The geophysical survey results reported herein are 5620 line km, covering an area of 1124 km2. The NGU modified Geotech Ltd. Hummingbird frequency domain system supplemented by optically pumped Cesium magnetometer and 1024 channels RSX-5 spectrometer was used for data acquisition. The main part of the survey was flown with 200 m line spacing and lines were oriented at a 55° azimuth in UTM zone 33 W coordinates. The northern part of the survey area was flown with 200 m line spacing and line orientation at 145° due to the extreme rugged terrain. The area around the Skaland and the Trælen graphite mines was flown with 100 m line spacing and line oriented at 125°-160° azimuth.

Geophysical and geological investigations for graphite on Senja and in Kvæfjord, Troms county, northern Norway

Abstract:
As a part of the MINN project (Minerals in Northern Norway) helicopter-borne geophysical surveys were performed on Senja and in Kvæfjord. Electromagnetic data from these surveys showed up anomalies that could be caused by large graphite mineralisation. Geophysical and geological ground follow-up work were performed at seven locations on Senja and two in Kvæfjord. Previously known graphite at Hesten, Vardfjellet and Bukken and new discoveries at Litjkollen (Bukken), Grunnvåg and Skarsvåg on Senja, were mapped in detail using ground based electric and electromagnetic geophysical methods. The length of the possible graphite mineralisation was from 1 to 2 km in all areas. The thickness perpendicular to strike and dip varies from a few metres to tens and even hundreds of metres. Geological mapping confirmed graphite of interesting quality in most of the areas. The area Skarsvåg had low total carbon content in surface exposures, and the sulphur content was relatively high. However, electric measurements indicate graphite of better quality deeper than 20 m. In all areas on Senja, analysis of thin sections shows flake graphite of same quality as mined at Trælen in western Senja, and as in Vesterålen where a beneficiation test was successful. All areas are intensively folded and some of them faulted. More detailed ground geophysics and deeper core drilling are recommended in the areas called Hesten, Vardfjellet, Bukken, Grunnvåg and Skarsvåg.

The graphite occurrences of northern Norway, a review of geology, geophysics and resources

Abstract:
Artikkel i Minerals 2020 nr. 7 vol. 10. Abstract: There are three provinces in Northern Norway in which occurrences of graphite are abundant; the Island of Senja, the Vesterålen archipelago, and the Holandsfjorden area. From these provinces, we report graphite resources from 28 occurrences. We use a combination of airborne and ground geophysics to estimate the dimensions of the mineralized areas, and, combined with sampling and analysis of the graphite contents, this gives us inferred resources for almost all the occurrences. The average TC (total carbon) content is 11.6%, and the average size is 9.3 Mt or 0.8 Mt of contained graphite. We demonstrate that the Norwegian graphite occurrences have grades and tonnages of the same order of magnitude as reported elsewhere. The graphite-bearing rocks occur in a sequence that encompasses carbonates, meta-arenites, acid to intermediate pyroxene gneisses, and banded iron formations metamorphosed into the granulite facies. Available radiometric dating shows that the graphite-bearing rocks are predated by Archean gneisses and postdated by Proterozoic intrusions of granitic to intermediate compositions.

Abstract:
I forbindelse med leting etter nye grafittforkometser på Senja ble NGU engasjert for å foreta CP-, SP- og VLF-målinger ved Bukkemoen i Lenvik kommune. Formålet med målingene var å kartlegge utstrekningen av de grafitt- skifrene som var påvist i området samt å detektere eventuelle nye grafitt- soner. Det ble mål med 100 m profilavstand. Totalt omfattet målingene 4.5 profilkm VLF- og SP-målinger samt 11.5 profilkm CP. De tre målemetodenes anomalier var tildels sammenfallende. Målingene påviser flere ledende soner som antas å være grafitt.
