The Porsa mine is located at Gruvevatn (Øvre Porsavatn), 4 km south-southeast of Porsa village in Kvalsund municipality. The mine is accessible by road with a gate. Key to the gate can be obtained from the neighbouring houses. The mine is situated close to the dam for the electrical power supply. The mining in the area started in 1900 by opening of the Bachke mine, nearly 3 km north of the Porsa mine. The company A/S Vesterdalen Kobbergruver (Copper Mines) commenced the investigations in Porsa in 1905. Porsa Copper Mines Ltd, under the leadership of Loius Greville and based on English investments, had then already conducted minor investigations in the area. The mining rights between the companies were not settled. A/S Vesterdalen was bankrupt by the end of 1905, and its properties was overtaken by the Swedish company Skandia. They conducted very limited investigations in the period 1906-07, and sold the rights to the English company Porsa Copper Mines Ltd. Test mining was carried out in Porsa in 1905 and the beginning of 1906. Ca. 600-700 tonnes of ore were sold to the Alten Kobberverk in Kåfjord and partly shipped to a smelter in Swansea in England. Porsa Copper Mines Ltd commenced further work in 1908 and the ore production was 3-4000 tonnes annually in the period 1909-1911. The reason for the closing of the mine in 1911 is not known. In 1918 the mine was reopened by A/S Porsa Kobbergruver, that carried out active mining until 1931. The mine was closed in due to lower copper prices. The mining has been carried out along two parallel, nearly east-west orientated carbonate+quartz veins in metabasalt. These veins are located about 150 m apart, and were named Greville in the south and Parallel (also Chr. Michelsen) in the north. The shafts are 76 m and 64 m, respectively. From an adit on the level ¿64 in the Parallel a shaft has been made down to 96 m below surface. Further mining has been carried out along adits and stopes on several levels. The entrances are today closed by concrete and steel covers and are not accessible. The ore-bearing veins are about 100 metres long. The thickness of the veins varies between 3 and 10 m and seems to decline along depth in the vertical veins. Steep dips, around 85° towards north are also found The deposit is located in Paleoproterozoic greenstones of the Svartfjell Formation in the Nussir Group, about 2 km northeast of the Caledonian Nappes. Well-preserved pillow lava structures occur in the greenstones in the area between the veins. The ore minerals consist of chalcopyrite and pyrite comprising aggregates and thin lenses and bands. Magnetite and hematite are also commonly found in the calcite dominated veins. Lensoide inclusions of the wall-rock commonly occur. |

Some uranium mineralizations in the Raipas Suite of the Komagfjord tectonic window, Finnmark, Norway. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;NGU; No.355;49-52 pages |
Abstract: | |
Uranium mineralizations have been discovered in the northwest part of the Komagfjord tectonic window. The mineralizations are found in two mines of the old Porsa-Neverfjord copper mining district. Pitchblende and brannerite occur as primary minerals. Black slates are considered to be the source rocks of the uranium-bearing fluids. |

Abstract: | |

Porsa malmfelt. |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.1800/62A;20 pages |
Abstract: | |
