Abstract:
Ultramafiske bergarter er mikroskopert og kjemisk analysert på hovedelementer og utvalgte sporelementer uten at umiddelbart økonomisk interessante konsen- trasjoner av noe mineral eller element er oppdaget. Økonomisk interessante konsentrasjoner av industrimineraler finnes muligens, men ble ikke observert under befaringen på øya. De mikroskoperte bergarter viste alle i varierende grad sekundær omvandling av olivin og pyroksen. Krommalm-prøver (impregnasjonsmalm og kompakt- malm) er mikroskopert og kjemisk analysert. Gehalter av malmmineraler (kromitt og ferrikromitt) er tilfredsstillende for de to observerte fore- komstene (lok. 2 og lok. 4 på tegn. 01). Den kjemisk analyserte prøve (impreg- nasjonsmalm fra lok. 4) indikerer at kromittfasen har en gunstig kjemisk sammensetning med blant annet høyt krominnhold og høyt Cr/Fe-forhold. De ut- drevne malmkropper har imidlertid vært meget små. Tilsammen er 24 tonn krom- malm tatt ut. Kun ubetydelige kromittanrikninger ble observert ellers i feltet (cm-skala). Bergartene på Rødøya er meget godt blottet og primærmagmatisk lagning kan iakttas flere steder.
