Description

Klebersteinen er temmelig varierende i tekstur og sammensetning. I bruddene sentralt og sør i forekomsten inneholder en nokså grovkornet kleber med svært mye karbonatårer. Steinen er massiv til foliert/båndet med enten uregelmessige eller foliasjonsparallellle årer. På østsiden av sonen finnes stedvis en finkornig og relativt massiv, lys grålig talkrik kleber. Ellers er kleberen massiv eller svakt foliert og relativt grovkornig, og finnes både som talkrike og karbonatrike typer. Noen steder sees en karakteristisk gressgrønn farge som kan skyldes fuchsitt.

Historical significance

Spor etter blokkuttak med spisshakke eller lignende håndverktøy finnes i en rekke brudd på begge sider av klebersteinssonen. Produksjonen har hatt stort omfang. Likhet med stein brukt i Alstahaug kirke (kanskje også Herøy kirke) kan bety at steinproduksjonen hadde sammenheng med kirkebyggingen i middelalderen (12. århundre). Grytestein synes å være produsert i begrenset omfang, hovedsakelig i et mindre brudd helt sørvest i forekomstområdet. Like ved toppen merket 26 på økonomisk kartverk (SØ i sonen) har det vært tatt ut kleber i en lav skråsynk som er drevet noen få meter innover med slakt fall mot SØ. Det er sannsynlig at også dette bruddet har vært utnyttet for grytesteinsproduksjon e.l., etter som det er for trangt og smått for blokkuttak. Mangelen på spor etter gryteuttak i blokksteinsbruddene tyder på at gryteproduksjonen er eldre enn blokkproduksjonen.

Location

lok 6B 390184 7306991 Forekomsten ligger på vestsiden av Haltøya ved utløpet av Vefsnfjorden. Kleberstein finnes i skrenter og knauser på begge sider av et 400 meter langt og 30-50 meter bredt søkk i terrenget som strekker seg fra Trangvika i sør og i nord-nordøstlig retning til motsatt side av øya.

Abstract:

It is a part of the coast-region in Northern Norway which is here described. It lies to the east of the Vestfjord between 67 degrees 20' and 67 degrees 40' N. The mountainous island of Landegode consists of granite. This rock forms also a large part of the territory on the mainland. The stratified rocks, occurring here are mica-schists, crystalline limestone and gneiss. Of these the mica-schists have the greatest extension. The mica-schists is often speckled with brown garnets. In some places it also contains actinolite and common hornblende. Gneiss occurs here, adjacent to the mica-schist. Generally there is no distinctive demarcation between the gneiss and the mica-schist. The gneiss as well as the mica-schist contain brown garnets, sometimes in considerable numbers. Numerous sheets and dikes of granite are intruded into the gneiss. Crystalline limestone and marble cover a considerable area. The limestone generally contains a small percentage of magnesia, and in several places layers of dolomite also are interclalted in the limestone. Much of the limestone is gray-coloured and yields a fetid odour when blown. It contains in part argillaceoud matter and passes into a calcareous schist. Several moraines occur here from the last phase of the Glacial Period.
