Description |
The Misværdal pyroxenite massif is rich in phosphorus with an average grade for all the sampled ultramafic rocks (106) of2.1 %P20 5 or 5 % calculated apatite. 9 % of them give an average of 6.1 % P20 5 (lOsamples >5.0 % P20 5) with a maximum of6.6 % P20 5 (- 15.5 % apatite). The high-grade samples are nearly invariably derived from coarse-grainedultramafic units, emphasizing a potential lithological control of the apatite enrichment (Figure 28). 4 potentiallinear zones ofcoarse-grained rocks can speculatively be def med, each with thicknesses in the range 50-200 m and covering areas of 180000-250 000 m2 (Figure 29). Their average grades are difficult to estimate due to varying P20 5 contents, even over relatively shortdistances. Increased knowledge about magmatic apatite deposits gained through the project has also lead to the recognisition of other potential target areas both in the Misvær region and elsewhere in the Caledonides of Norway |
Location |
The Misværdal massif, with a surface extension of ca. 8 km2, is situated near the sea; about 130 km from Glomfjord by boat lts apatite potential was recognized in 2007 by Nordland Mineral, an organisation established and fmanced by the county administration in Nordland and collaborating with the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU). Yara International ASA wascontacted in 2008 for economic support and agreed to finance Iithochemical investigations in collaboration with NGU. |

Borkaksprøvetaking av apatitt-førende bergarter i Misværdal pyroksenittmassiv, Bodø kommune, Nordland |
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;RAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.2011.069;95 pages |
Abstract: | |

Yara International ASA was contacted in 2008 for economic support and agreed to finance lithochemical investigations in collaboration with NGU. Target: The ultimate target for the investigations was to define a potential open-pit area exceeding 200 000 km2 and containing rocks with an average grade of minimum 6% P2O5. (...) |

Characterization of apatite resources in Norway and their REE potential — A review |
;Elsevier;ARTIKKEL;Ore geology reviews; No.58;126-147 pages |
Abstract: | |
Apatite is a necessity for the production of phosphorus fertilizers and presents a potential raw material for the extraction of REE and Y. A wide spectrum of apatite deposits is found in Norway including sedimentary, igneous, and vein type deposits. The igneous deposits which appear to have the greatest potential for exploitation occur associated with alkaline complexes, massif-type anorthosite complexes and monzonitic complexes. One of the most promising is found in the monzonoritic Bjerkreim–Sokndal Layered Intrusion of the early Neoproterozoic Rogaland Anorthosite Province in southwest Norway. |
