The deposit (also known as Eiterfjord and Beiarn) was discovered in 1891 and was operated in 1891-1892. The outcrop was re-investigated in 1898. According to Poulsen 1964, the operation has produced 685 tonnes ore with 6-7wt% Ni. The ore was extracted from a 23m long and 3m wide cut. In the middle of the cut, a 4H2m and possibly 33m deep shaft is located, currently filled with water. At 5m E of the cut¿s end, a 15m long trench runs NW across the area. The ore consists of pyrrhotite-pentlandite-chalcopyrite with minor titano-magnetite is located on the (sharp) contact between norite in the hanging wall and garnet bearing mica schist in the footwall. True thickness varies between 0.25-1m, typically 0.3-0.6m. The massive ore has all been extracted. Samples (05-08) contain semi-massive ore were taken from the tailings and are most likely less rich. The lenticular norite body is covered prohibiting an accurate size estimate. The body is hosted by a garnet bearing mica schist and has a maximum thickness of 25m, and probably 10-15m at its widest. The norite is medium grained with finer grains towards its margins. Up to 5m from the ore body, the norite contains ever decreasing amounts of disseminated sulphides, as well as sulphide veins. Samples 01-02 are norite with disseminated sulphide taken at 1m and 4m from the ore body, respectively. The NW running trench mentioned above only contains a thin 2cm band of ore in one wall. Removing vegetation cover by hand reveals that the massive ore only extends 25-30m. The ore body contains a few quartz nodules with pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite dissemination (04). Chalcopyrite is enriched towards the contact with mica schist. The wall of the shaft displays a 10cm wide vein containing massive ore, cutting from the norite SW into the underlaying mica schist. Sample 03 is from a similar discordant sulphide vein in quartz rich mica schist with garnet along the vein contact. Boyd & Nixon 1985 provide data for disseminated ore (0.9wt% Ni, 0.3wt% Cu, 4.25wt% S), and for massive ore (5.5wt% Ni, 0.8wt% Cu, 30.25wt% S).

Zn-Pb forekomstene på Nonsfjellet og Vassheia, Beiarn kommune, Nordland
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;NGU-rapport; No.2003.085;20 pages
Abstract:

The geology of the Beiarn-Lode according to a descriptive article given by prof. Vogt of Christiania in his treatise on nickel-lodes and nickel production under the title of "the geologicla examination of Norway".
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;Bergarkivet; No.BA 1187;2 pages
Abstract:

II. Nord Norge.
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;NGU; No.204;1-101 + 2 pages
Abstract:
The map accompanying this paper shows the mines and ore deposits of Northern Norway (the three northern counties), and forms the second and final part of a work started by the late Steinar Foslie in publishing maps and general descriptions of the mines and ore deposits of our country. The amp contains 834 deposits, the greater part of which is situated in the Nordland mining district (IV on the map). To facilitate the use of the map, the deposits (and mines) are marked with circles of different sizes and colours. This map has, however, only four different sizes (instead of eight on Foslie's map). This present map has, however, five colours instead of the only four previously. The sizes refer only to the presumed importance of the deposits or mines. Mines being worked at the present time (1963) are marked with a white line drawn horizontally through the circle. The mines and the deposits are numbered continually for each of the two mining districts. On the map are drawn the boundaries of the different municipalities (herred) and deposits inside these are numbered in succession. The object of this paper is mainly to give a short summary of the different ore types in relation to the geological fromations, and the distribution of the metals.

Preliminær rapport Lille-Leiden nikkelforekomst.
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;Bergarkivet; No.BA 839;3 pages
Abstract:
Lok. Nr. 40358.

Eiterjord nikkelgrube, Beiarn.
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;FAGRAPPORT;Bergarkivet; No.BA 1185;2 pages
Abstract:
Forts.
