The Undal deposit is situated in a graphitic phyllite with minor greenstone which belongs to the so-called Undal Formation, which is interpreted as a tectonic mélange, situated between the Gula Group and the Støren Group in the Trondheim Nappe Complex. The deposit is about 600 m long and has the form of a thin ruler, about 70 m wide and 3–5 m thick. It is a pyritic ore body with subordinate chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Analysis of ore production yielded 1.15 % Cu, 1.86 % Zn, 43.2 % Fe and 41.1 % S. About 279 000 t ore was produced from the deposit, mainly between 1952 and 1971. The total tonnage of the deposit is estimated to about 1 Mt.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper was written in English for the XIV International Geological Congress, Madrid 1926, as a part of its monograph on the Pyrite Resources of the World. The present Norwegian edition has nearly the same content. However, the geological review is a little more extensive, the production statistics have been carried a year forward, to the end of 1925, and some more illustrations are given. The English reader is referred to monograph of the Congress, as only a short statement of the contents is given here. On page 7-13 will be found a short account of the relation of pyrite deposits to the Caledonian mountain chain in Norway. The author maintains, that the main part of its intrusives, and with them the pyrite deposits, belong to the first period of folding processes of the Norwegian mountain chain, probably of Lower Ordovician age. On page 13-18, the characteristic features of the Norwegian pyrite deposits are described, and a summary of the recent views concerning their geology is given. According to these, a small group of pyrite deposits are bio-chemical sediments between basaltic, submarine lava beds, the greatest part of them are magmatic differentiates from gabbroidal intrusives, and a last group are hydromagmatic or hydrothermal deposits.

Abstract:
Det er gjort elektromagnetiske målinger i feltet. Det framkommer to markerte elektomagnetiske indikasjoner.

Caledonian sulphide deposits and minor iron-formations from the southern Trondheim region, Norway.
;Norges geologiske undersøkelse;TIDSSKRIFTARTIKKEL;NGU; No.340;35-85 + k pages
Abstract:
Within the southern and central parts of the Trondheim region of the Norwegian Caledonides a great number of small, stratabound cupriferous pyrite deposits are confined to mafic metavolcanics of the Gula, Støren and Fundsjø Groups of the Lower Palaeozoic succession. The deposits occuring within, or in close contact with the metavolcanics are characterized by their association with minor manganiferous oxide/silicate iron-formations - better known as "vasskis" ore type - within the metamorphic low-grade areas. The iron-fprmations of the metamorphic higher grade terrains on the other hand, which are extensively developed within the Gula Group, are mostly of a pyrrhotitic sulphide/silicate type and sulphurization processes are thought to have played an important role during the metamorphism. The pyrite deposits occurring adjacent to the metavolcanics bear no relationship to the iron-formations. They are embedded in pelitic, often carbonaceous assemblages (Gula Group) or within tuffitic members of the volcanogene Støren Group, and they are thought to represent re-sedimented (reworked) deposits. The pyrite deposits display varying degree of metamorphic reconstitution and a tectonic control has apparently determined their disc- or ruler-shaped morphology.
