Skaug or Skog mines consist of two larger cuts about 100m apart on a height, about 1km N of Skogstjern lake. The two cuts are dubbed Søndre Skaug and Nordre Skaug, respectively. The southern cut is U-shaped, 2-3 m wide and 85-90m long. in the north, At the U's "knee", there are two deeper pits so there must have been more ore available here. Additionally, a 20 m northward pointing trench was dug starting from this knee. The cut is largely filled with water. Its walls are smooth and even, and follow the schistosity of the host rock which consists of strongly banded amphibolitic to quartz-feldspar dominated gneiss, usually also containing garnet. The gneiss banding varies in thickness from centimetres to meters. No sulphide mineralizations were found during the assessment in the accessible parts of the cut. The tailing heaps on the S side of the cut contain an estimated 1200m3. Here we find chalcopyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization in millimetre to centimetre thin veins in a matrix of amphibole, quartz, and garnet. Less common are rounded nodules of feldspar, obviously strongly deformed. A substantial part of the tailings consists of pegmatitic quartz and K-feldspar, probably leucosomes. Other parts are strongly silicified with substantial garnet and occasional pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite, alternating with centimetre wide bands enriched in amphibole. As the cut follows the gneiss banding, the ore obviously was concordant with this banding. The deeper parts of the cut are in the fold hinges and the ore has probably been concentrated here as a result of the deformation.

Abstract:
USB samtykker i Hydro's konklusjoner.
