I inneslutninger av kalkspatmarmor i den store lyse porfyr-granitten på Tovens topp-platå opptrer wollastonitt i granat-rike kalkbenker nær grensen til granitten. Wollastonitten er finkornet fibrig i granatrik kalk med litt grønn diopsid. Flekkvis opptrer ca. 30% woll., 30-40% granat og 30% kalkspat. Wollastonitt er påvist på 8 ulike steder i kalkene innen Toven-granodioritten på Elsfjord-kartbladet. De fleste lokalitetene har wollastonittanrikninger kun i under 1 m mektighet, hvorav kun slirer og bånd med inntil 10% wollastonitt opptrer. Den "største" forekomsten ligger 300 m SV for topp 714 og fører wollastonitt innen et areal på 7x20m i en meget granat-rik kalk. Alle forekomstene er for små og fattige til å være drivverdige. Beliggenheten på 500-700 m høyde oppe på fjellplatået er også ugunstig.

Abstract:

I Nordland fylke utgjør lag av kalkspatmarmor en markert andel av det geologiske kartbildet. Kontaktmetamorfose i tilknytning til de mange intrusiver om opptrer sammen med kalkene tilsa at mulighetene for wollastonittdannelse ble ansett for å være gode. Et leteprogram etter dette mineralet er derfor gjennomført. Wollastonitt er blitt påvist på en rekke nye steder i fylket, og mineralet er funnet i tilknytning til ulike typer intrusiver, med gabbro og porfyrgranitter som de viktigste. Gehalter på opp til 50% er lokalisert i smale soner, men ingen forekomster har volume og gehalter av wollastonitt som er av økonomisk interesse.
