Bjørkedalsforekomsten ligger på øst- og vestsiden av Bjørkedalsvatnet i Volda, ca. 15 km sør for Volda sentrum og ca. 4-5 km sør for Austefjorden. Riksvei 1 mellom Volda og Nordfjordeid går gjennom forekomsten som tidligere er blitt kartlagt av Brastad, (1985). Forekomsten er den nest største olivinforekomsten i landet, og var det første sted der drift på olivin ble forsøkt igangsatt. Mye bebyggelse gjør at det i dag er lite sannsynlig med ny drift.
