Beskrivelse : Representerer det nordvestlige elementet i Trøndelagsplattformen. Def. fra krittdiskonformiteten og ned til bunnen av trias hvor de øvre krittavsetningene er borterodert. Mange litostratigrafiske enheter som har sin hovedutbredelse på Trøndelagsplattformen tynner ut eller blir borte over Nordlandsryggen. Ryggen er gjennomskåret av dype forkastninger. Kompleks tektonisk historie.
